Oscar movies
My movie pal & I are scurrying to see all the contenders before the Acadamy presentations, but I'm still hoping for CRASH to win "Best Picture" as that would ensure many more people would view this powerful portrait of racism from many varied aspects. However, the last movie we saw was MATCH POINT and it included another portrayal of the over fifty woman who drinks too much. She keeps turning up in movies. Cloris Leachman did her wonderfully and comically in SPANGLISH and so did Ann Margret in TAXI when she took the entire blender of mixed drinks off to her bedroom. Of course, we know this stuff is more sad than funny. And Woody Allen, in MATCH POINT where he is writing and directing like the Ingmar Bergman he always wanted to be, slips in a character who has too many gin and tonics and says more than she should say. And then it's not just sad. Then it's something that can begin a tradegy.
