Good Day Booze Busters!!!

gelgit, I always wonder what it means when the news reports say a fire is "X % contained." Can you shed any light on that? Still sounds quite dangerous to me no matter what % "contained" it is. But I'm glad you saw some rays of sun!!!! I will try to do a rain dance for you. And no, you cannot have a video of that. About breeds changing over the years...the conformation show ring in the German Shepherd breed (and also in other breeds I think) is blamed heavily for changing the GSD breed into more non-workable slobs than dogs capable of doing the originally intended work. I would have to say I agree with that to a great degree with the American bloodlines, and to a smaller degree the German Showlines (which is what Ferguson and Kimba are). The Eastern European lines of German Shepherds are probably the closest to the original breed standard established around 1900 (actually late 1800's I think) with the Western European working lines the next closest. OK - enough dog history for one morning!!

Mame, I always wonder why mother nature distributes things like rain so unfairly. Some are flooded while others are burning down. Here's hoping you can send your extra rain to gelgit!! I think your hypno is onto something - let's declare July 4 INTERNATIONAL Independence from AL day. What is stroppy? Whatever it is, if it means you got 7 straight hours of sleep, uninterupted, all in a row, in the same night, then I WANNA BE STROPPY!! I think that is VERY cool that you contacted the restaurant, and made a difference in their decision to carry more AF options. That no sugar added sparkly juice sounds pretty good! What flavors does it come in?

kaddy, travel safely to see your son. Congratulations on 118 days. Hmm...that's 2 days away from 120 days. That's 4 30 Day AFHF stretches in a row. Hmmmm.....

SHEEPISH!!!! YOU GO on getting Day 1 under your belt. WE CAN DO THIS!! On to Day 2. Just figure out a good plan that works for you.

Waving hello to all other Booze Busters. Hopefully all of us in the US have an EXCELLENT AF plan to get us through the upcoming holiday weekend. I got a whole bag of lemons at the store Tuesday. I plan to make some Louise Specials (gotta get mint today!) and also lemonade with Stevia. That and a firm decision that I WILL NOT drink alcohol will carry me through. And of course touching the life line here when needed!

I can't believe it's Day 43 AFHF here. I'm so focused on trying to get in shape and get this fat off my a$$ that I really haven't had more than the odd thought of AL recently, except for that "longing to celebrate" a bit last Sunday. I will enjoy this "peace" for however long it lasts!!

It's been a horrid slow week for business which is to be expected during a holiday week. I am trying not to panic!! This happens every year and most holiday weeks and I'm still not used to it. (we will celebrate our 5 year anniversary of our own business in September)

Well, have a great day everyone!!!!

DG

Hello everyone,

Some days I'm on a natural high from being sober and today is one of those days. I hope everyone else is feeling gooooooooood too.

Doggygirl: great pix of Ferguson. He looks very pleased to be showing off his moves! I'm sure business will pick up after the holiday. I had my own business very briefly a few years ago (it lasted for about nine months!) and I remember how stressful it was waiting for someone, anyone, please!!!, to give us work. You're doing very well if you've succeeded for five years.

Gelgit: I hope the fires are dying down. It sounds like a scary time.

Teardrop: I saw a piece on the news about kids here having proms now and dressing up and arriving in stretch limos etc. Bit different from when we were at school!

Sheepish: well done on day one! I always found those first few days tough - hang in there.

Everyone else have a great day, and I hope all you Yanks celebrate getting rid of us Limeys in splendid AF style tomorrow!

Alas, I allowed funk to lead to deranged thinking and drank a bottle of wine Tues night. Wore the fuggly green suit yesterday (accompanied with headache). It is hot and scratchy and getting quite tattered. Glad to be back in normal clothes today so I'm on day 2 with Sheep. Way to go sheep!

Yes, must make a really good plan for tomorrow. Have been invited over for small party at house of some people we are acquainted with but don't yet know really well. When we said we could come, got a message back about how glad they were we could come and "as I recall you both drink and like good food so we will have fun" Yikes!!! My husband drinks little. I have no recollection of these people drinking more than very casually at any event we have been at with them. Of course I was always busy trying to figure out how to get more wine without being too conspicuous. Well somebody noticed obviously! Need to mull the "I'm on medication" and take AF beer, which will make it easier for me, or the "I'm trying to lose a few (45) pounds" and stick with water. Perhaps I could just try "No thanks". That would be novel.

DG - for mint I would suggest you buy a plant and stick it in 1 of your pots. The stuff is next to impossible to kill (one person said sometimes you can drown it). Do NOT plant it in your yard unless contained - it is a rampant weed. The previous owners of our house planted it in a the yard so I just go out and pull some up daily to try to keep it in control. It is amazing to me how much they charge for it at the store.

So thankful, hope you are doing ok. Gelgit, still sending good wishes for rain, let us know you are still safe. Marshy and Teardrop, glad you are both felling good. Marshy, you Limeys are probably quite relieved you didn't keep us at times. Kaddy, have a good trip and we look forward to your party!

Have a good day all BBs!

Oh Louise!!!! Was it at least the finest, most expensive, exquisite yummy wine to be found in New Mexico? I was about to post that we should finally get the fugly green suit to the dry cleaners now that it's not being used by anybody. Which indeed it no longer is today. Good to have you back. I should take the AF beer to your party so you're less likely to be tempted by any goodies they may have to offer. I'm still at work so will post more later. And yes, good going Sheep on day 2!!
Just wanted to add, Louise, you were feeling out of sorts earlier in the week. Some issues are hard, they just are, and take time to work through. It can even take time to find the words to articulate what doesn't sit right in your soul. Don't give your power away. ((((((())))))

Hi all, hope everyone is feeling good. Kaddy - enjoy seeing your son.

Sheepish and Louise ... so good that you've picked yourselves up. I know how much pride I had to swallow (several times) last month when I was all over the place, but it was so great to feel the support from here.

DG - happy anniversary to your business!! I've got a marketing suggestion for you - someone sent me an email today advertising a USB wine tap!!

I didn't know that "stroppy" was not a universal term, but it is obviously a kiwi-ism. "Stroppy" is a word usually applied to women, but not usually in a negative way. Its a bit of a "dont mess with me, I'm in charge, get out of my way" sort of thing. I like days when I feel that that as I usually get a lot done because I'm not constantly re-visiting whether I'm doing the right thing, or trying to please other people.

Things are definitely looking up on this side of the world ....... sold some furniture this week which has simultaneously given us some cash and some space in the house! And its been a good wek for exercise and the rain stopped last night and today is a beautiful day. But the best news is that Uncle Mame has been offered a fantastic job - because he was not having any luck getting anything he wanted he applied for something that he could do just fine, but which he felt was going backwards a bit. Anyway, they rang yesterday and asked him to come in to have a chat, and this morning they asked him to take on another role leading a 3-year change management programme. He is brilliant at this stuff and prides himself on doing these things in a way which is people-centred, instead of those nasty horrible "if you dont do it our way you are out the door" processes. We met for coffee afterwards and he looked like a changed person - all the light is back in his eyes, and he is cheerful again, and he was off to get stuff done at home.

Of course, all this "things going well" stuff is presenting new challenges - I've developed some strategies for dealing with things when I'm feeling like shit, but my first response to things when they work out is currently "yay - lets open the champagne"!! We have decided to go out to dinner tonight to a nice place where we usually do our celebrating, and I think I will find that hard. Particularly as it is Friday night - which is the night I find hardest. I went and bought a bottle of Ariel AF (well, 0.5%) bubbles, and I'm going to suggest that we have a glass of that before we go out, so that I feel like I've had something celebratory with him.

anyway, hope you all have a good Friday and a good weekend ......... I will be hanging around the house cleaning out clothes and linen and books, so will check on regularly if anyone is around. For those of you in the US, have a great holiday weekend!!!

Its funny i was thinking about my last drinking session i had.. You know it only takes one bottle of wine for me to have a blackout my brain cant seem to store information anymore! There's nothing worst when the kids ask you a questions from the night before and you cant remember a thing.

Take Care ALL you Booze Busters out there.
