Default I never thought I would let it get this far

Well this is my first post , I finally have gained the courage and the knowledge to participate in a program I believe can help me. I like everyone else never intened to let my drinking get out of control it just happened, I have always been a social drinker, I used to love having drinks with my wife and friends but I have found that over the past three years I started drinking more and more to bury my problems rather than deal with them, well that just started more and more problems that led to more and more drinking. Then the blackouts started, I always took pride in the fact that no matter how much I drank I was still in control of myself, which is a total joke but denial is a very powerful thing, I have gotten to the point that every time I drink whiskey I blackout but continue on about my buisness for hours with no recognition of what I did or said. Well I have done alot of damage to myself is what I have learned from all of this and I guess I just figured out that enough is enough! I tried AA but I couldn't stand it, I just didn't feel comfortable there , I felt like I was supposed to admit that I have ruined my life but I do not feel that way I feel like I let myself get out of control but my life is not over! I have much more to do and I will do it but I need help to control what I have let get out of control. I know in my heart that with real support and the right supplements and meds I will beat this, I have to for my own sake I used to really like myself and right now i am dissapointed in myself but I am on my way out of this, I Believe that. My 11 son asked me the other day what being drunk was like and I thought about it and I said "This is a very Dark Ride" funny thing was I didn't realize it untill the words came out of my mouth.

Hi Sounddad,
This is a wonderful place to start your new path in life. The people and support are amazing, and there is so much knowledge here to assist you in what ever road you choose to take. I've never been to AA but I know people who go and they have found success, but like everything else in life, what works for one, may not work for you. And you're right, your life is far from over and you have a family who loves you and needs you. And most importantly, you need to be healthy and happy not only for them, but for yourself as well.
I hope you find all the support here you need, there is always someone on any time of the day or night as we are all from different parts of the world. Poke your away around and get to know people, you will make fast friends, chat is always fun, and if you need immediate support you will find it here as well.
All the best to you.

It was great to read your first post. I am new here as well. The folks here are very nice and willing to help in any way they can. I also have been trying AA and don't always feel comfortable but I continue to attend meetings. Make sure you buy/download the book and ask lots of questions. From what I hear the supplements are great as well.

You really came to the right place for support! This site is incredible. I also did the AA and it didn't work for me either, but (when I stick around long enough) this site is a Godsend for me. I hope you will gain strength with every AF day and keep posting.

All the best to you!

Welcome Sound,

You're on the right path! Be sure to get the book (most suggest the download, but at under $15, find it's easier to order rather than use up all that printer ink) and read it. Keep reading posts, and engage as much of the program as you can. I have found the hypno cd's to be very helpful, and am pulling them out as needed after the initial 30-day period just because I need a boost.

Try to hang onto your early determination (easier when you come here!). Like dieting, there will be periods when your enthusiasm may wane, and you may be tempted to return to old habits. Go for a change in lifestyle, not a temporary fix. You may end up giving up booze for good, or you may be able to moderate. Many diverse opinions on that one. Welcome, and best to you.

V.

"I know in my heart that with real support and the right supplements and meds I will beat this"

Start with the Kudzu from this site. I get l-glute in bulk. These helped me get free. A big part of it is mental toughness and a personal commitment to getting your real life back.

You will not miss the hangovers.
