I asked my Dr last week about a Nootropic when I was there and she was unfamiliar with them. Are they over the counter - under the counter? I asked about the Adrifinil Adrafinil (Olmifon) and she said it wasn't in her "book". Hmmmm. Has anybody taken any? Worth the effort? She said if I could find out more about it she would prescribe it.

By her “book” she probably means drugs with FDA approval and regulated in the United States - which Adrafinil is not. Doubtful she will have a change of heart with extra research – but you can always try.
Adrafinil is a chemical predecessor to Modafinil which does have FDA approval for the treatment of narcolepsy. Modafinil is known in the medical community (would be in her book) for “off label” treatment of ADHD, shift-work sleep disorder, and disease-related fatigue. Those on MWO that use Adrafinil use it to counter the fatigue related effects of Topamax. Below is a link to a very interesting article on eugeroic’s such as Modafinil and others in development. Best of luck in your research. Get ready for 24-hour living - health - 18 February 2006 - New Scientist |
