Default Web articles/sites and books

I've been away for a bit reading and reading, and reading some more about all ways to view this addiction, want, need, sickness, mental illness, stupidity ... call it whatever you want. Everyone seems to have a different idea as to the why and what drinking to excess is all about. I'm still unsure what I think it is ... but I know I have a problem with how much I drink and how it effects myself, my loved ones and my life as a whole.

I think it's important that people LEARN about their issues. Research is key to understanding why we do what we do and how to overcome it.

The following is a selection of a few links to some interesting reading. No offence to anyone who's 12-stepping or involved in AA, it's not for me, but these links are not a means of bagging anyone out. I just want to give examples of alternatives (or alternate pathways) available for interested people on the same journey to either moderation or ultimate sobriety.

Articles/sites of interest:

Spirituality:

I'd love it if everyone could add interesting, useful resources here? If a collection of useful articles, books and resources is already available please direct me to it and feel free to delete this thread.

Best!

Kate

Oh this is great - I'm always wanting recommendations for stuff to read.
I've just finished 'Wishful Drinking' Carrie Fisher - was good. 'Dry' is a great read also.

I've heard a few mention 'Drinking: A Love Story' by Caroline Knapp but all the libraries I've tried don't have it.

Hi Angelcakes,

Chapter from Drinking: A Love Story follows:
Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp

Sounds like an interesting and poignant read regarding women and alcohol abuse.

The book is available second hand on Amazon if you can't find it in libraries: Amazon.com: Drinking: A Love Story (9780385315548): Caroline Knapp: Books

I think I'll grab a copy. Thanks for the rec!
