Hi Pip4er.
I cross checked Zoloft and Ritalin. Both advise avoidance of alcohol as this increases central nervous system depression. Also, with Ritalin you should avoid stimulants as this can potentiate an amphetamine-like effect. Topamax was not mentioned for either drug as a precaution. Because both Ritalin and Topamax can decrease appetite this may be a factor to consider when the two medications are used together. Weight loss--especially rapid weight loss--is a stress to the body and can stimulate the flight or fight response. This may trigger a desire to drink alcohol. I hope this helps. --Dr. Garcia |
