Default Guilt versus Shame

In my daily meditation book for March 10th:

Guilt, the gift that keeps on giving. - Erma Bombeck

Guilt is a positive thing for us. It lets us know when we are acting in a way that coincides with our values. Shame is destructive. Shame tells us we are not good enough, that we have no value.

Addiction feeds on shame. Recovery gives us the ability to heal the shame by our taking responsibility for our addiction and gain our dignity.

Actions for Today:
Today I will consider what actions I take that are not in accordance with my values.

(This is a very paraphrased excerpt from my Daily Meditation Book, but I thought we should consider the difference between guilt and shame. It is a powerful concept!!)

Love,
Cindi
