I love to take my favorite verses and then read them from "The Message" - It sounds more like my Abba Papa talking to me! This is a current favorite:
"There is no comparison between the present hard times and the coming good times. Meanwhile, the moment we get tired of waiting, Gods Spirit is right along side helping us along." Romans 8: 18 & 26 (From the Message) The verse that may become my all time favorite is the one I wrote in my Journal on my first AF day (Jan. 1) "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." (1 Cor 10:13) God is good all the time. It's not that I haven't been begging him for recovery for YEARS - (and have known this verse for a long time) ... I have been chained to addiction like a compulsive slave. Yet - Thanks be to Jesus Christ - I am holding the key to unlock the prison doors and I plan on walking out a free woman! ODAT Just hours after I wrote this verse in my journal - I stumbled on to the MY WAY OUT website!!! I am thanking Him tonight for all of YOU!

"Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not." Gospel of Mark, X-xiii-xiv. In facing my alcohol problem, I've felt very much like a small child who got into trouble WAY over her head. The quality of mercy, realizing that I need not be perfect to approach Our Lord and beg his help, forgiveness, and love, has kept me from self-hatred and shame---two really destructive emotions! The first thing I did when I decided "this time I'm quitting for good!" was go to confession, something I had not done for 4 years! Receiving absolution from the priest felt as if Jesus himself was speaking to me...and now, if I were to open a bottle of wine, I would feel his sorrow. He'd forgive me again, but would I forgive myself?

Wake Up Call for March 27, 2008Comfort Food I must admit that one of my all time favorite dishes is macaroni and cheese. A close second would be a grilled cheese sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup. Mmmm - just the thought makes me hungry. Really, is anything better than good old-fashioned comfort food? What about comfort food for the soul? Sometimes the soul is cold and sore. Sometimes it's gloomy outside and rain is falling and circumstances are hard. Sometimes our soul needs to crawl up in a ball with a blanket and feel some soothing warmth. God has such comfort food for an ailing soul. There are many passages in his Word that are a healing balm to me. Mine are easy to tell: they are highlighted and marked and dated over and over with notes inserted every which way. Do you need comfort right now? Let me share some of my favorite recipes with you. "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Psalms 46:1) "This I know, that God is for me." (Psalm 56:9) "When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong; because the Lord is the one who holds his hand." (Psalm 37:24) "Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." (Psalm 55:22) "Neither has the eye seen a God besides Thee, who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him." (Isaiah 64:4) Those are good for openers. Of course there's much more where that came from. With a good meal under your belt you can start your own recipe box. Now read the Straight Talk question of the week. The Bible mentions several times where God hardened someone's heart. This reader wants to know WHY. Does God Harden Hearts? Thank you--SB47,
I'm not sure if this is a Bible verse--or someone's interpretation--but I came across it the other day, and I liked it enough to write it down: "I love you. Not one test too much will I lay on you. Rejoice."

IGNORING THE ENEMY
Colossians 2:6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him. There are three ways of responding to the demonic taunts and barbs being thrown at you during your daily walk with Christ, and two of these ways are wrong. First, the most defeated people are those who consider demonic thoughts and believe them. A subtle thought is shot into your mind: "You don't pray, read your Bible, or witness like you should. How could God love you?" That's a bald-faced lie because God's love is unconditional. But you start thinking about your failures and agreeing that you're probably not very lovable to God. Pretty soon you're sitting in the middle of the street going nowhere. These Christians are totally defeated simply because they have been duped into believing that God doesn't love them, or that they will never be a victorious Christian, or that they are a helpless victim of the past. There is no reason why they can't get up immediately and start walking again, but they have believed a lie and the lie controls their life. The second response is just as unproductive. You try to argue with the demons: "I am not ugly or stupid. I am a victorious Christian." You're proud that you don't believe what they say, but they're still controlling you and setting your agenda. You're standing in the middle of the street shouting at them when you should be marching forward.
Prayer: In the face of the lies the enemy throws at me today, Lord, I choose and embrace Your truth.
