I am having to work on my spirituality right now. I know without a doubt it is critical to my recovery.

I know AA says we need to connect with our Higher Power and I truly want to but often I am torn with doubt. This is odd for someone who always believed in the traditional Christian story and values.

I picked up a book written by Joyce Meyer written back in 1995 called Battlefield of the mind

Much of what is in there so applies to us with addictions. It is amazing, even though she does not address addiction at all.

Be aware that it is a book devoted to Christian beliefs and uses Scripture to make the points.

Anyway, just wanted to share. I am going to start praying every morning and praising in the evening and be patient, like Joyce says, change takes time.

Love,
Cindi

I just love you both so much.

I start each day out on my patio...rain or shine...hot or cold....about 5:30 and watch the sun come up.
I have a devotion book.."My Utmost For His Highest" and others with me.
I"m just "still" for a while....about an hour maybe..He comes where and when He is invited. He is a gentleman.
Its a great way to start my day...

Nancy

Cindi, I read Joel Osteens book, Your Best Life Now, when I started out here, and started going to his church, since then, I have read lots by Anne Lamont, great book, Grace Eventually, and some my Joyce Meyers too, I too start out with an e-mail daily from Joel's church, and read my journal with notes of quotes/scriptures that keep me motivated....it never fails, that when I fail to do this, I fail! Seriously!
I pray away alot of fears now....Joel talked about having fears, concerns, and worries, and just turning them over to God, say them specifically, and ask for help...he said its fun to write them down, put them in a shoebox, and shelve them for a week...turn them over in pray, and if the obssesion to worry about it comes back...say.."Dear Lord, I'm glad I turned this over to you and you are working on this for me, and you have a plan, and I trust you to handle it, please take it from my mind now"....sometimes I can just quit worrying by starting a prayer...Bear told me that he had to learn to turn it over to the Big Guy, to be ok....WE AREN'T IN THE DRIVERS SEAT SO WE NEED TO TAKE OUR HANDS OFF THE WHEEL!! lol
I'll send you some of my fav. e-mails I read daily to your personal e-mail, and maybe they will help. Just remember, take care of you, and just breathe! Love you tons and bunches!

OH, and the fun part of "shelving" the problems, is taking them out of the shoebox in a week, reading them, and seeing how many were taken care of by then, its just not worth fretting over things that even in a few days, a few months, will be handled without our butting in...lol....

Thanks for the reading recommendations and the "shelving" the worry.

Worry is a big issue for me and one I let get to me last week. Worrying about things I have no control over. What a useless waste of precious time and internal resources as well as that it is only negative. Nothing positive comes from worry unless there is something we can change, in which case that is not worry, that is "the courage to change the things I can."

Love,
Cindi

Oh, Nancy, after reading through Joyce Meyer's book, I GET the caption and the Psalm. She explains that God sometimes talks to us in a quiet voice and we must be willing to take the time to listen to Him.

He will tell us what we should know when we are ready to hear it.

Love,
Cindi

Mornin !

I just wanted to share this with you . I just can't tell you how much I don't like the hot, dirty farm work.
This morning after I read the following, I wrote my page and prayer asking God to give me His Joy in the "drudgery" work today.
Hubby had planned to move hay and I was going to have to help out in the hot sun most of the day. I didn't sleep well last night as I dreaded it so much.
Well short story long...........
I came in the house...Hubby had taken his walk around and looked where we were going to put the hay...around butternut squash....and said...
"I think we may do more harm than good if we do that as the squash have begun runners and it would damage them to do it now".
So we are not going to do it.....
It took me a few minutes to realize that God had answered my prayer by saying...
"Hey, I can fix that for you my child.....we just won't do the "drudgery" work today."
Whewwwww!
Is our God Good or what?

I feel like a million pounds are off my back....and my heart is full that He would love me that much...who am I?
I pray that He will bless you also today with Joy.....in all that you do.
Love,
Nancy
Ps46:10
"Be still and know that I am God."

THE NEVER-FAILING GOD

For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake
thee.

Hebrews 8:5
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=heb+8:5&sr=1

What line does my thought take? Does it turn to what God says or to
what I fear? Am I learning to say not what God says, but to say
something after I have heard what He says? "He hath said, I will
never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The
Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."

"I will in no wise fail thee" - not for all my sin and selfishness
and stubbornness and waywardness. Have I really let God say to me
that He will never fail me? If I have listened to this say-so of
God's, then let me listen again.

"Neither will I in any wise forsake thee." Sometimes it is not
difficulty that makes me think God will forsake me, but drudgery.
There is no Hill Difficulty to climb, no vision given, nothing
wonderful or beautiful, just the commonplace day in and day out - can
I hear God's say-so in these things?

We have the idea that God is going to do some exceptional thing, that
He is preparing and fitting us for some extraordinary thing by and
bye, but as we go on in grace we find that God is glorifying Himself
here and now, in the present minute. If we have God's say-so behind
us, the most amazing strength comes, and we learn to sing in the
ordinary days and ways.

I'm trying to get back into my daily devotions. Unfortunately my spiritual life dwindled when my vodka habit was at its worst. I lost interest in prayer, probably because I was too drunk and just fell asleep.
