He is My Atonement
Nancy1 John 2:2 Jesus' sacrifice of atonement (hilasmos [iJlasmov"]) is powerful enough to heal the sins of the whole world and unite it to God, but it is only "Jesus Christ, the Righteous One" (1 John 2:1) who can accomplish this. God's sovereignty and love in atonement are clearly seen in 1jo 4:10 and cap the New Testament teaching on this essential doctrine: our love for God is not the issure, but rather His for us and it is this love that both motivated and produced the sacrifice of Atonement (hilasmos iJlasmov") necessarey for healing the relationship of God to man. So the biblical teaching about atonement is summed up: "This is Love: not that we loved God, but the He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. "1 John 4:10.
