Here's a way to use up the leftover beer in your fridge- actually, you can also use AF beer or soda too (7 up, ginger ale, or even club soda). This is a thick bread that goes well with chili, soup, or stew.
2 3/4 cups Self-rising flour (has to be self-rising)
12 oz beer
1/2 teaspon salt
1 Tablespoon sugar (optional)
Mix together until moist, pour into greased bread pan. Bake at 350 for 50 - 60 min.
To change the flavor, you can get creative and add combinations like:
1 cup olives, coarsley chopped; 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese; 1 1/2 teaspoons italian seasoning
-or-
1 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese; 2 sliced green onions; 2 teaspoons basil, 1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
-or-
1/2 cup jalapeno peppers, chopped; 1/2 cup chopped sundried tomatoes; 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese; 1 teaspoon of garlic
Get nutty and add sunflower seeds, walnuts. Can top with sesame seeds too.
If you go with citrus soda or ginger ale, it makes a sweet bread; you can compliment it with 1 cup of chocolate chips, 1 cup blueberries, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
Any other combinations?
