Default Dets Hawaiian Ahi Poke

Poke (pronounced pokey) is a common treat in HI and is like their version of a tuna tartar.

I had leftover tuna from the party so this is what I made.

in a glass bowl combine:

tuna cut into small cubes
minced green scallion onions (or any onion if you don't have or don't like green)
splash of soy sauce or tamari
splash of rice wine vinegar
teaspoon of toasted regular or spicy seasame oil
teaspoon or two of peanut oil
smashed and minced fresh garlic
fresh cracked black pepper
sea salt if needed
optional but recommended: minced half of a jalapeno chili pepper

let that macerate for at least 30 minutes and you are ready to go.

that's pretty much it. if you want to have some fun at the table provide some sheets of nori and folks can make their own handroll and eat them while they are still crunchy. I hate soggy nori...blick! but crunchy it rocks!

aloha and ono grinds braddah

(Dx is going to die laughing)

ok, I must confess if this were authentic poke there would be seaweed in it. but alas shops in Reno think you are insane if you ask for such things.

Well, I would think that most places are green compared to Nevada! But It takes a certain appreciation to see the beauty in the desert. Every place is special.
