Default Looking for a Long Lost Christmas Cookie

My Grandma's, both English, used to make the most divine cookie at Christmas. I'm thinking they were probably something traditionally English.

I don't know it's name but I think it was a refrigerator cookie. It had red and green cherries and sliced almonds in it, the cookie itself was like a sugar cookie only sliced quite thick.

Both of these ladies have been dead a very long time and my mom didn't make these.

I have googled but still haven't found anything.

I know this isn't much information but if anyone has any ideas it would be so much appreciated!

Thanks! Merry Christmas!

Is this it? A friend of mine sent me this the other day.

1/2 pound of butter
1 cup of brown sugar
1 egg yolk
2 cups of flour
1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
1/3 cup glace red cherries cut in half
1/3 cup glace green cherries cut in half

Combine all of the ingredients. Make the dough into 2 balls. roll the dough into 2 logs with a 2 inch diametre. Wrap in waxed paper and freeze for 2 hours or chill overnight. Cut logs into 1/8 inch cookies. Bake on a cookie sheet at 375 for 7-8 minutes. Do not over cook them.

Lushy,

Looks like you found it based on Magic's memory.

A fruitcake cookie.

May I just say how really bizarre this is that this recipe showed up in my e-mail the other day and then you asked for it?

Magic,

If Lushy'd recipe is not the one you are looking for, perhaps look at a traditional short bread recipe and add the dried fruit and almonds to it. I know that almonds a complimentary addition to short bread, Just a shot in the dark from a little half-German girl.

Hello Little Half German Girl,

I hadn't thought of that, it would have to be that hardy Scottish shortbread though!

You know, I just might try that too since I'm already slicing cherries and softening butter..

I may have to look in the closet for that other pair of jeans.
