I am so ashamed that I've yet to try quinoa! It is on my market list this very day. Londoner, I love your "Eat this or eat air" directive...kind of like my two menu alternatives when my girls were little: "Take it... or leave it!" (My air-head liberal sister in England believes in slaving for her darling kiddies and giving them whatever their little hearts desire, which is usually fried fish and chips, and those kids are both porkers!) Okay, quinoa today.

Jane Jane,
Like you, I am so embarrassed to admit I haven't cooked with Quinoa yet, either. I saw it yesterday in my Dr's office in a recipe there. I love grains, so I know I will love Quinoa. Haven't met a grain or a vegetable I didn't like. (I even like Lima beans!!) I guess I have to "break down" and order it online because I have wandered down the aisles of every store in town and not found it. Hey, some of my stores are called "Piggly Wiggly" what do you expect??? As far as children being picky? I learned a long long long time ago that starvation is a slow death. If a child skips a meal because they are not hungry, keep presenting that meal to them until they decide they truly are hungry. It may be very frustrating but it is worth it in the long run. It is for their own welfare that we "make" them eat right. Not their own "good" but their own "welfare." I think people tend to forget about that in the heat of the battle with the little ones. I, of course, speak from long ago experience where I had no idea what I was doing with my first one and kinda figured it out with the second. By the time the grandkids came along, I was able to roll with it. ![]() BTW, the oldest has a weight problem. Go figure. I tried to "please" him instead of looking out for his welfare. I love my new career idea MOW. The Bossy Bitchy Cooking Queen.
Cindi, I cannot believe Piggly Wiggly has not changed their name by now. I don't think I could trust food I buy at a store by that name! ![]() Hope you all have now purchased your quinoa and given it a try. It is awesome stuff.

Lushy,
Nope, they haven't changed their name yet, even though they were purchased by the "Lucky" supermarkets -- which I would greatly prefer namewise. However, I hate to admit this, the "Pig" is great if your are a meat eater, one of those vile low crawling folk who actually eat animals, LIKE ME. ![]() My daughter and I have discussed this many times. She is like me, a world without meat just doesn't make sense. However, our roots come from Northern Europe: Scotland, Ireland, Sweden.. There were not a lot of veges there, there was, however a lot of animals, hmmm... There, unfortunately, was also a LOT of alcohol. ![]() My son always said that we were based in people that when they couldn't kill an animal to eat, drank alcohol to get by. My son is actually smarter than he seems if you think about it.. Okay, on to Quinoa. Love, Cindi |

Cindi! Lushy! My two very favorite people here...
I LOVE Piggly Wigglys! We had one in the town nearest my childhood farm and my nanny/cook/whatever-she-was Esterine used to take me shopping there every week. I would be bored to death listening to her talk for what seemed like HOURS to other maids shopping for their white folks...and now I wish I'd written down some of it. A disappearing part of our Southern folklore. As with those big jars of pigs' feet and pickled eggs...maybe good riddance?
