Default Really good baguette appetizer

My friend brought this over last night and I thought it sounded so odd that I would not like but it was delicious! And really easy.

Whole wheat baguette
Pesto
Pear (she used canned because they were softer)
Gruyere cheese

Preheat oven to 400. Slice bread. Brush each piece with oil and bake for a minute or two until crisp. Turn bread slice over and top with pesto, a couple slices of pear, and shredded gruyere. Sprinkle some pepper on top. Bake until cheese melts, being careful to not burn the bread. Really good!!!

Oh, Lushy, what Heaven that sounds. I needed a snack to tote to Monday-night French group and I do believe I have found it. Merci mille fois!

"Liked them" scarcely describes Le Club's reaction...more like "wolfed them!" This goes in my permanent file for sure.

So glad to hear! I just put the cookbook on hold that this recipe came from. Will share any more good recipes I find.

Note from Jan Jane's professional test kitchen---this works GREAT with other cheeses, too. I had some pesto and a chunk of that baguette left after French club, so the next day I tried it with a Dutch Edam and YUM! I'm thinking a veined soft cheese like Saga Blue would be tasty as well. It's probably one of those magic recipes that is good however it's done.
