Default Tuna - any suggestions?

My husband went to Granville Island yesterday and picked up a really nice piece of tuna. It is skinless and boneless.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prepare it? How would I spice it and would I bake it or grill it?

Thanks for your help!!!

Hi AFM,

Not sure if your into sushi - or having it raw, but Determinator has a wonderful recipe that he made and said it was a hit with all his guests. Its the "Hawaiian Ahi Poke" thread ... go check it out!

In a hurry, sometimes I will make a yummy salad -- usually with an Asian flare dressing, and take a piece of fresh tuna steak and give it a good rub down with toasted sesame oil, roll it in black sesame seeds, and sear it for about 60 seconds on both sides (more or less to your liking, I like it rare but warmed through), and thin slice, then put on top of your salad. Its so healthy and low fat, and feels like you're eating out!

I'm sure other ideas will flow in....

Good luck, and be sure to eat it soon while its good and fresh!

If it's really fresh I would try Det's recipe or a nice nori-maki with it depending on how much you have. But if you have a lot - you can never go wrong with lightly grilled tuna!!!

What a nice husband!

It was pretty big, Mags. Very fresh (right off the boat) and very good. LOL. I did end up grilling it. It was the best fish I had in a very long time. At 13 bucks a pound, I guess it should be, eh? I would of tried doing the sushi, but he isn't as brave as I am, when it comes to food.

Thanks for your suggestions, I appreciate it!

For the life of me, I can't get past eating a big slab of rare tuna.
Tuna sushi is great
Sashimi takes a bit of courage, however,
the thought of chowing down on a rare tuna steak does not appeal to me at all.

Is it really GOOD or are all you just being food snobs and pretending it is cos it's fashionable?

This inquiring mind needs to know.
