Default Please help answer some questions

I stumbled onto this site yesterday and it seems like what I have been looking for to help me get over this silly problem that I have created for myself.

As much as I want to get in control of my drinking it seems as though I am almost cutting off ties with my best friend. Does that make any sense? Maybe I have gone to far off the deep end and am beyond help. :\ I also have no idea what I would do with those hours in the evening that I have carefully calculated my drinking to cover. However, it would be nice to wake up EVERY morning and be clear on what happened the night before.

I know that my drinking is bad for me and I know that I am setting a horrible example for my kids. I know my drinking makes it nearly impossible for me loose the extra pounds I have put on as a result of aforementioned drinking. So if I know all this, why do I have so much anxiety about giving it up?

Like I said, maybe I am to far gone, but if anyone can remotely relate to my situation I would appreciate some insight.

Thanks in advance!!

I can really relate to that, being a newbie on this site too. How about you take a deep breath, buy the book, cd's etc and have a go. It won't harm you and maybe do some good.

Seems like there are a few newbies on this site over the week or so I have visited so maybe we can all help each other? With some major help from the more experienced ones. I dunno ... I feel really optimisitic about it.

First Friday night without being pished, btw. But now, it is after 11:30pm where I am and off to bed...

Ooooh. Just set up the family music system in my bedroom so I can listen to the tapes all night and have my bedroom to listen to them tomorrow too. That was my big decision today.

Hi Julie, and welcome. I can totally relate to feeling like your saying goodby to an old friend, maybe a best one...
It's so hard to imagine a life without it. Besides, it's everywhere you look, in our society. That's partly why I've chosen moderation, besides the fact that I'm not ready to change all the "people(my Hubby-mainly,and family), places & things in my life"... what a joke I got out of that statement!!
Don't know if you're familiar with AA(no offence intended- to anyone....), but that's just not feasable in my reality... at least not in this life.
I think that's the beauty of this program, you can pretty much "dial" it in to yourself, to a certain degree. Give it a shot. It's the best thing I've found,....since sex, chocolate, & alcohol!! Now I can still enjoy all of the above!!LOL:rollin

Default questions??

Welcome Julie
There is nothing to be nerovus about. We all have similar problems and difficulty dealing with the time left open now because we are not drinking. I am still quite new to the program as well. I bought the book,cd's,supps but have not taken topomax. I will be finishing a month of abs at the end of May.I did slip once and drink wine but not a huge amount.I could never have imagined going that long before.Sometimes the evening are difficult but I try to put myself to bed as early as possible. The mornings are so much better!!!
Good Luck and I look foward to your posts. The boards and this site are also a big help.
I have also read and enjoyed your posts Wombat...../Welcome!!!!!
Janet
