"Passivity and patience are not the same thing. We can wait our whole lives for fortune or love to come our way, but if we don't initiate action(which means risking failure) the opportunities that pass before us daily will probably never be actualized.
Boldness is the opposite of passivity. To be bold means to choose our destination, to set our own course, and be brave enough to correct that course if we decide it's not taking us where we want to go. To be bold is to act- not with ruthlessness aggression-but with determined energy. It is to reach out and move toward what we are seeking rather than waiting for it to magically materialize. When we are able to identify our wants and needs, we become better at making choices and at plotting a personal program of growth. Learning to proceed this way takes practice and courage....Today I will "act" not re-act... ![]() |

Yeah Judie,
Gotta love it!!! I think this idea of yours of posting these affirmations and/or reflective thoughts is great. I'm also thinking of Becca, who has probably finished running by now and hoping that she did well this morning!!! Has anyone read the thread on anger and alcohol in general discussion?? It is great. Lots of good food for thought in there! Today will be a balanced day for me. Some house work and going to see a friend for dinner. I'll be splitting a bottle of wine with my friend most likely, then back on the wagon for tomorrow, which reminds me--I've gotta take my morning supps. Almost forgot. Hugs, Kathy |

Back from my backpack. Great weekend although it was a bit hot even at 4,500 ft. We were on the Appalachian trail in the Great Smoky Mtn Nat'l Park. My girlfriend is working on hiking all the trails in the Park.. I finished last year (took me 3 yrs but I've hiked all 900 miles) and her hubby has hiked 'em all.
On the AT in the Park you have to stay in shelters instead of tents. The shelter we were at sleeps 14 and we had 13.....ugh. Don't really like shelters and only the 3rd time I stayed in one. It was ok though, everyone got along, a few snorers but I managed to sleep. Some good joke tellers and met a tremendous 17-yr old backpacking solo. Mature beyond his years. The route was great and tough. I came home and had 3 beers and a glass of wine over 4 hrs. A bit over my 3 drink limit but I'm so freakin' sore from walking with a pack that I needed something to numb my aching feet and legs. That was my first backpack since the broken knee cap. Hubby cooked great dinner for my return. He's suffering tendonitis in the hip and is not able to hike or ride much... Judie, like you said it's so neat to carry everything you need on your back. Tomorrow will be more difficult at work after being out in the woods. I start to think about "true work" and "life is short" so why work in a cubicle......I need to go listen to James on the clearing CD. <sigh> We saw deer, turkey (male with feathers fanned out for his ladies), stirred up 3 familes of ruffed grouse (always scares the sh%t out of me because they startle you at the last minute, one mother ran towards me wings spread hissing at me! I apologized and told her we meant no harm). THEN a record 4 black bear sightings including a mother with her cub. This is very cool and means wildlife are doing well in the park (I hope). I usually see 1 bear/year. So I need to get back to the gym, be AF Mon-Thur, and lock my purse in the car while I'm at work so I can't buy junk food when I'm bored or stressed! :rollin It's 'that time of the month' and I'm vulnerable to junk and alcohol......... Volunteer work Tues, Wed, Fri, Sat this week. It's the last time I have to help with this one event. I was organizer the last 3 yrs and serve in a secondary role this year. I am so glad to not lead the event, it definitely lead to drinking due to stress. Unpaid stress!!! Sorry to monopolize and talk about me, me, me. It looks like a quiet weekend for the moderators. Look forward to Becca's report on her run and am confident Kathy will continue to do well with her moderation plan and heal from last week's confrontation. Judie- love the affirmations, keep 'em comin' when you can. If you ever need some tasty dehydrated meals try www.maryjanesfarm.com out of Idaho. Organic and very tasty. Interesting woman and business. Foot rubs to all! Lois |

Hey ya'll! Just got home from another "sorta" busy night... Good night ... all in all, just some nights , I feel like I'm not quite as "on my game" as others... I don't know if it's the topa... or just me... getting older, & not as quick; as I used to be....? Anyway, I still run circles around some or the new, younger folks there....:rolleyes Starting to feel like an old "hard - Ass", like my dad always was!:b
Great day for "Critter sighting" , I saw a pair of river otters on the river today... they were kinda "playing Tag"...or maybe trying to lure me away from the place where I'd first startled them... Think maybe there could be babies... up on the bank... somewhere..... They are soo cute ! And this is just a five minute walk from our house, to where they were at, kinda neat! That'd be fun to watch the babies grow up this summer! Tonight on my way home(drivin...) I had a little red fox , and a possum in front of my truck(at different times):eek A couple of guys I served dinner to, said they saw a Bobcat swimming across the river yesterday, when :eek they were sitting in their fishing boat, about 10 ft away! Full moon fun! |
