Happy Day 27 Surfers!!!
WOW only 3 days left!! Whaaaaaattttt??? :eek I am so proud of all of you, even if you're not of yourself ...YET!! Whether you like it or not I'm proud because I know how hard it is to do this, even for 1 day! Please be kind to yourself, being here is in itself a huge accomplishment!! And I believe that you are already on your way out even if you can't see it just yet... i don't know who said it? but there's this famous quote: "Change your thinking and you will change yourself" - something like that. No magic involved, we just learn new more effective ways to live, and to deal with problems when we use a different approach. I look forward to the day when shame & guilt are no longer the emotions attached to drinking. Certainly they are worthless in this context, as they only serve to perpetuate a drinking cycle. It may be possible, but how well do you think you will do by pounding yourself into submission? For me, it only puts the bottle right back in my hand. I got so tired of that cycle, truly vicious to myself as it was. I finally realized that feeling bad wasn't going to change anything. MY way out doesn't embrace destructive thoughts and feelings, because I know where they will lead me. Society has gotten it into our heads that we are bad people b/c we have a drinking problem. We make a big mistake when we adhere to that kind of thinking. I think & hope that better understanding and better problem solving, or managing, will be the result of our experience here. I try to think objectively about my "problem", almost as if it's a separate entity from me. It's like the way I would think of any of you: there's a person, this person has a problem, how can we solve her problem? Not by blaming her for housing it, but by attacking her problem. With compassion for the person but no mercy for her problem. I believe that we have some wonderfully effective tools at our disposal. However, it does take some tweaking and trying different things to strike the right mix for you. There's a lot of new information that we can make use of, and we don't even have to spend hours & hours researching - It's in RJ's book, it's here on the site under Research, and it's in CV's posts on the GD board. Let's try and get this info to work for us. Maybe the hard part is getting out of our own WAY OUT! Good Work everyone! And I mean EVERYONE!!! Deirdre :P There is nothing either good nor bad but thinking makes it so. -William Shakespeare (Hamlet) |

Good Morning All,
I think quite often the hardest part IS getting out of our own way Deirdre! I know I personally spent over two years trying to do just that and failed miserably! But, once I finally did "put my #ss in a bag" as Jane and Gabby would put it, and got it out of my way, well, here I am! Not always an easy thing to do though, but as mentioned, with all the research and tools at our disposal, it is most definitely doable! So my surfer friends, NO giving up allowed!!! If one way doesn't work you, you move onto the next, and the next...and so on, until you find the YOUR WAY OUT!!!! You have nothing to loose...except for the that "#ss bag", and most certainly, everything to gain! Hey Susan, it is so good to see you back! I must admit, I too was a bit wooried. Your conference sounds so interesting! Shas, I hope you are feeling better today! You have been doing so well! Hopefully with the light of day will come a refreshed sense of just how far you have come! Big hugs to you! :d I hope everyone has a great day!! Donna |

Thanks for all your inspiring and kind words. You are awesome! Day 27 is a HUGE accomplishment.
I am starting Topomax this week. Hopefully July will bring my Day 27...and beyond! You are right about the negative "stuff" out there these days - I think we tend to soak it up like a sponge - hense the viscious cycle! Blessings to you, Donna and all the best in the many days ahead. wellseasoned |

There will be an anouncement soon about next month and what is being planned for the abs board! Donna |

Thank you all so much for your birthday wishes!!!!
I might as well admit that I am 50 years old and get it over with.....slightly scary....but....normally at this time of year we are in Greece (where my husband is from) and at this beautiful resort. HOWEVER this year I'm glad to be here because at that beautiful resort there is the continuous bottomless bottle of wine available.Wine flows with every meal and it is poured continously. It was always the worst drinking time for me ever so I'm glad I don't have to face that now. Sort of pathetic to admit you don't want to be somewhere great bacause of the alcohol threat, but it's the truth. Even if I decide to moderate I will never be in the position to have endless glasses of wine in front of me. I guess there is no inner stop button in my body. It's funny that I would never drink six glasses of water during an evening but wine would slide down easily. Enjoy the day everyone. Thanks again for your nice thoughts! Janet |
