Hi Friends,
Thought I'd share something special I found while searching for motivation to stay sober (tough day for me). This is borrowed from the "Women for Sobriety" site. I've edited it for our guys here. Hope you like it as much as I do. 1. I have a life-threatening problem that once had me. I now take charge of my life. I accept the responsibility. 2. Negative thoughts destroy only myself. My first conscious act must be to remove negativity from my life. 3. Happiness is a habit I will develop. Happiness is created, not waited for. 4. Problems bother me only to the degree I permit them to. I now better understand my problems and do not permit problems to overwhelm me. 5. I am what I think. I am a capable, competent, caring, compassionate woman/man 6. Life can be ordinary or it can be great. Greatness is mine by a conscious effort. 7. Love can change the course of my world. Caring becomes all important. 8. The fundamental object of life is emotional and spiritual growth. Daily I put my life into a proper order, knowing which are the priorities. 9. The past is gone forever. No longer will I be victimized by the past, I am a new person. 10. All love given returns. I will learn to know that others love me. 11. Enthusiasm is my daily exercise. I treasure all moments of my new life. 12. I am a competent woman/man and have much to give life. This is what I am and I shall know it always. 13. I am responsible for myself and for my actions. I am in charge of my mind, my thoughts, and my life. (c) 1976, 1987, 1993 To make the Program effective for you, arise each morning fifteen minutes earlier than usual and go over the Thirteen Affirmations. Then begin to think about each one by itself. Take one Statement and use it consciously all day. At the end of the day review the use of it and what effects it had that day for you and your actions. I plan on setting it out where I drink my morning coffee. |

Thanks for these Lori. I have read them before but I'll print them out now and post them near.
I think part of that site also said: "Forget the past Plan for tomorrow Live in today" Today is a brand new day and when it is over, I want to feel good about how I've filled it! :d Nancy |

Yep Anni,
I mostly work with autistic kids which I really enjoy. In the mornings I have L.D groups, it's there I get a lot of lip:b You must be a very caring and patient person to do the work you do. I'm glad you're here. Time off work was my biggest fear until I went on Antabuse a month ago. I think about drinking almost every day, but I can't. It's a HUGE help to me what with summer break here. EZ mail me if you'd like to have a support buddy, I could use one myself. Blessings, Lori |

Thanks for posting this Lori. Great idea!
I want to get in the habit of reading & pondering these everyday too. They're all great, but today I love #8. I was thinking something similar on my drive home from work today, and how drinking would completely get in the way of growth, and how it's so NOT a priority. Time is so limited, a day goes by like "that", so why should I waste it? Deirdre |

Thanks Lori,
I have read Jean Kirkpatrick's book and find the groups ideas so uplifting. I have been very negative lately and these 13 statements are once again like a breath of fresh air.I am going to print them and read them when I get up 15 minutes earlier in the morning....much easier to do when you're not hung over Thank you Janet |

Hmmmm, I'll have to get her book Janet. I only have read bits of her writing on the website. I had no idea she had struggled with this problem. Negativity is HUGE for us I think. You can't always cut it out of your life as so much of it has to do with others flinging it at you. I guess it comes down to the old adage, 80% is our reaction, and only 20% is what really happens (or something like that).

Her story is quite amazing. Even though many of us have not gotten to the point she had--I could relate to much of what she felt.
Her book turned me onto Unity Church. The whole concept of Unity is so positive--I have been attending a small Unity Church and it is so uplifting. They do a lot with positive affirmations. I have selected many which I can relate to personally and use them often. Kim |
