Some people feel that way while taking Topa, but I see that you're not. Sorry, I don't know what to tell you! Beatle had been the resident expert on supps, but she has not been posting lately. Gelgit knows a lot about supps -- maybe try to PM her.

22 days AL free and have not been able to sleep for the past five nights. I am averaging 5 hours of broken sleep each night. Tried Melatonin, nada. I started on some Evening Primrose Oil. Not much anxiety, but for sleep, nada. Have Valerian, tried it years ago and it didn't work for me. I can't try it now until my daughter grinds it up. It is hers and I don't want to touch it unless she is here. She is 20, so hard to pin her down.lol. Appreciate any advice.

I finally went to the doctor and got Trazedone. It works without making me way too muddle headed in the morning.
It is a script, of course, but approved for use by alcoholics as it is not habit forming. I only take it once in a while now. I keep trying to sleep "on my own." BTW, how much Melatonin are you taking? When I was in rehab they gave me 6 mg, the doctor there said that seemed to be the "magic" number. I hate not sleeping, too. It has been bad lately for me, also. Ick. Love, Cindi |

Thank you Cindi. Unfortunately, I am allergic to Trazedone. I was put on it in 1989 and I broke out in hives. Glad u mentioned the Melatonin. I am only taking 3mg, and I thought that was alot. I will try doubling it tonight. It is odd because it used to work for me when I worked the Night shift and I had to sleep in the day time.

Well maybe I am doing too much kudzu; and maybe I should move the 5HTP and GABA to bedtime.
Seacailin--I woke up at 3am again this morning, so the "groggy" problem is not translating necessarily into good sleep... Got up, got on the computer for a couple hours, then back to bed, and slept OK for two more hours. Maybe all this will even out... it really does seem like an awful lot of chemicals (natural or not, they are chemicals) to be throwing at my body all at once.... No doubt takes some adjustment time... Seacailin, I hope you get some good advice on the sleep problem, and/or that it starts getting better. wip

AWIP - never underestimate the effect of detoxing. Even if we aren't in traditional "DTs" - your body, suddenly being free of the constant inload of alcohol, is now rejoicing and doing a 'spring cleaning'. Cleansing and clearing out of toxins causes groggy, foggy, headachey, as the old toxins move through your system and out. The best you can do for this is drink LOTS AND LOTS of water, with fresh lemon juice is great as much as possible, to help wash all this out. Take hot baths with salt, sweat, make sure you are 'regular', do lots of deep breathing (the lungs are extratory organs, you know). Also be sure you are eating good, clean foods. Avoid processed anything, and sugar, as this only inhibits the natural cleansing your body so much wants to so, and prolongs and exacerbates the cleansing side effects.
You have a lot of crap moving on out, and just know that while cleansing sucks in the moment you will feel so very much better once you're cleaner. If you're really into it, look into various cleanses. There are herbal kits available, certain diets, etc. Don't curse the cleansing, welcome it with gratitude and know it is part of your healing. Btw, Kudos on the 5 days!!!

I am trying to quit. Tonight I got such a headache I a"had" t go out a buy some vodka because I just felt so awful. I now feel better--but in the morning I know I won't. What can I use to help me get through this detoxification period and survive without wrecking my plan to quit?
Thanks for any help. |

Yes, AWIP - I'm sorry I called you Y.S. - I was confused. Along with the fresh lemon juice, you can get stevia - pure stevia - it is a sweetener - I get it from Trader Joes and you can make lemonade with it, and drink lots!
