Det, you're a blessing. This is just what I needed to read this morning.
I've known for years that I have candida - all the usual symptoms. My naturopath prescribed me anti-fungal drugs and I did the diet (not very well) and symptoms got better, but I know I didn't eradicate it completely.
So this info is again the universe knocking me on the head, reminding me to address this.

MOW! MOW! MOW!!

LOL
hey, miss you on chat dear.

some things that are fab for killing the candida are L-glutamine (yes the one and the same)
and oil of oregano (very powerful) and olive leaf powder (taken in capsules usually).

you are pretty hip on this stuff so it may be redundant,

Detonator......

DETERMINATOR!!!
I miss you in chat too! I look in there every now and then and never see you. :(

I didn't realize that L-glut works for candida! I've just started taking it daily a couple weeks ago, because I'm working out, and because I've read that it helps with cortisol levels, and mood.

Det,
Thank for the good information! I am on L-Glutamine so it's a start. I guess my diet needs some tweaking for sure. I don't crave sweets but I do eat a lot of bread which turns to sugar when metabolized and I eat quite a lot of red meat. I'm going to the store for some fresh fruits and veggies today, although they have gotten quite pricey as of late. It is difficult to eat right on a budget, but I AM saving $$ by not buying beer for myself, right?

I just drank coffee for the first time in months and I'm experiencing "the shakes". I know now that I should not have started in on that "drug" again. I used to be addicted to coffee but several months ago just stopped drinking it (I'm not sure why) . I guess my body is not used to the stimulation. I hope I don't reach for the beer to aleviate the symptoms. I am getting really anxious. Maybe I should just get up and move my way through it.

Anyway, thanks for all the info and I'm going to read some of those articles you highlighted.

Deter, thank you for posting the info about the connection between cancer and Candida. Gives me new avenues for reading. FWIW, my new doctor absolutely agrees that Candida is a HUGE problem for a very high percentage of the population. She advocates ALWAYS taking a probiotic of good quality. I actually take the ones she recommends now. I started with a 3 month detox version - you can only get it through doctors - has a very very high strain count. Now I'm on a type that she likes in the summer, and she actually has a different one she likes in the winter. If anyone wants the brand and info of the "summer" version I'm on now, I'll get it for you. (not sure if I can recall and get the "detox" version as I threw the bottle away - but I could look at my receipts..)

Here is a web site I found useful - there is a forum with people posting who have battled very serious Candida problems and they seem quite knowledgeable for anyone seeking more detailed help. WholeApproach.com - Natural Candida Treatment – Systemic Yeast Infection and Candida Diet Recipes, Forums and Products

MOW - there is a lot of suggestion on that site similar to what you describe - feeling like you did some treatment but maybe didn't get to the bottom of it. I was surprised at how LOOOONNNNNGGGGGG it really takes to get rid of a yeast overgrowth problem of moderate proportions - much less a serious one.

Lots and lots of us are walking around with this problem.

Another cancer fighting supplement that my new doc likes is COQ10...but the Ubiquinol version. Apparently most of the COQ10 on the shelves at drug stores, health stores, etc. is NOT that version. She seems to think that is a very big deal. If I die of cancer next week I will know she was lying.

Anyway, very interesting all this stuff - thanks for sharing.

ETA: This web link that explains some of the Ubiquitol business and what that means. This is the brand of COQ10 I take pictured in the upper right corner. Coenzyme Q10: Maintain Optimal Coq10 Blood Levels With Coenzyme Q10 Supplements - Life Extension

I haven't had time to read through all this, but I do know some of it is true. My father had an almost incurable cancer a few years back. He did have chemo, but the doctor, one of the foremost in the world for that kind of cancer (lymph), said that avoiding sugar was the most important thing he could do (that includes alcohol of course)-- he said eating sugar would be a death wish, and why bother with chemo if he ate sugar? My father cut all sugar from his diet and underwent chemo, in addition to a basically macrobiotics diet and made a full recovery.

Wow beatle - that is awesome. I'm happy for your family, and also what a good testimony to the evils of sugar in all of it's forms.

How are you doing? I hope the sailing is smooth for you!

I whole heartedly believe in diet vs. cancer!

My Mom is getting married on Saturday.... she was told (literally) "there is no cure". WRONG! Her story was in the American Journal Of Medicine.

This was her fourth bout of cancer... her first when I was in 10th grade, I'm graduating now. Just kidding! Anyhow, she is a living testimony to macrobiotics and vegetarian based lifestyle... she beat THREE more cancers by living/ eating this way. Its hard for me, but I am learning it!

I am so happy to see my Mom not only survive, but be getting married again (she is so cute!)

Diet is crucial. Never underestimate its value!
