Beatle- I was a veggie for 16 years of my life...i am not a nutritionist, but I do have some protein knowledge under my belt. (I am also hypoglycemic too....protein is my life!!!)
Peanuts are not bad for you, their are some kinds that are better than others. Peanuts pack a big protein punch in the nut department. Soy nuts though are the highest in protein. Almonds are the best, good source of protein and their oil is very good for you. Some greens like brussel sprouts, spinach and beets offer protein and iron. YOU DON"T LIKE BEANS???? Well, do you eat milk products, eggs or fish? For, if not, how do you supplement your diet with enough protein? When I began my veggie days, I was 14, my mother made me see a nutritionist. She was nervous about my diet and wanted to know what MY body needed. I really would suggest this for you. Also do you like tempeh, seitan, hummus....or at least....refried beans? good luck and enjoy your meals! flyin' |

Well, I've been a vegetarian for many years, but am just starting to get serious about my own health. I know quite a bit about nutrition, as I'm also raising my children vegetarian (so I had to do the homework for them, if not for me).
My kids get a good, nutritional diet (they are the healthiest kids in their class), because I make sure they do. But they love all kinds of beans and lentils, as well as soya products, most vegetables and fruits, and we bake our own spelt bread. But beans are unappetizing to me (hummous is ok, also refried beans are tolerable). I love all soya products, but can't eat too much due to a thyroid problem. I know I heard that peanuts are not so good for you for some reason, but I can't recall why. I can get organic peanut butter, which i love, but wonder if it is actually any good for me or not. Also, wonder if anyone knows which nuts are the best? I've read a lot of conflicting information, so not sure.

My gym trainer is a nutritionist. My homeopath told me I should avoid dairy so that knocked out the yogurt and cheese the gym guy wanted me to have daily. So he said 20 raw almonds in one serving. Thats a lot of almonds. I asked about peanuts & peanut butter(I like peanut butter on toast with sliced banana) and he said he didn't want me to have that much fat and I'm pretty small. Also if you do the beans and rice, you could add chow-chow or salsa or something to jazz it up.

Beatle, This looks good: Most Delicious Lentil Loaf Kinda like a lentil meatloaf. There are ways to dress up beans. I was thinking about using mashed potatoes instead of tofu. Experiment. ![]() FB |
