Default SAMe

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with SAMe. I'm on topa and taking all the supplements, I'm always exhausted and on the depressed side. I just started prozac, but am really interested in SAMe and wondering if it will really lift my mood and give me that energy that I desperately need.I want to order it from the mwo site, but as always money is a factor, but if this works I'll go for it. I can't go on feeling like this. Thanks to anyone who has input

There have been many threads and many posts on this subject in this forum. If you do a search you will get lots of info. One thing you will find out quick is that if you are bipolar, it will turn you into a maniac (in other words, stay away from it). I did a lot of research on it and there is a considerable amount of evidence, not just anectdotal but from a number of real scientific studies, that it helps many people more than anti-deps. I wish I was one of them, but I tried it and became a maniac, thereby confirming one doctor's suggestion that I am bipolar. SO I recommend you pursue it, but just do so carefully.

I would really recommend reading The Mood Cure. Maybe L-Tyrosine? There are a lot of posts on this subject.
Good luck - this is an area I always have questions about too.

Mar, as Beatle said, there are many other threads on this topic, not just 5htp but other ideas for beating depression. Read all that you can find. I solved my depression issues with supplements but never used SAMe. There are options - research and find what may be best for you.

sam-E worked for me. But, as Beatle said, you have to do your homework. I just did not want to take AD's.

Go back and look up the post/thread about Lithium Orotate, its great, and a natural supplement, I took it then just thought I was "cured" and stopped taking it, big mistake....its great for cravings, and its a great mood stabilizer and just chills you out... its a mineral salt, not to be confused with Rx lithium...we own a pharmacy, and I just hear too many complaints about AD's, prozac seems to make lots of folks tired, esp. in the early afternoon, and kills the sex drive, ditto some of the others....so I got my bottle back out and started it again...we have it at our pharmacy, the Dr. formulated brand....I'll post the website too....SamE sure helped my daughter during mood swings, PMS, etc...so I'd endorse it also, just get the best pharm. grade you can! Opps, the supp. doesn't have a website on it....Google search Dr. Hans Nieper, M.D. of Hanover, Germany....Advanced Research brand.... Hope that helps...remember, that's coming from someone who makes a living selling Rx's....lol....

Default SAMe

Hi marlxoxo,
SAMe has been a Godsend for me! I have been on anti deps in the past but too many side effects. I was dubious about trying it but was willing to try anything. I was amazed how good I feel on it and it only took about a week to take affect. If I had let my depression progress to a worse stage I don't know if it would have worked as well. But I am on it and don't want to take a chance by going off it. Everybody else it right about doing your research though as only you will know if it's right for you.
I don't know where you live but in Australia where I am we can't get it without it costing the earth and in correct strength. I buy it here and it's great!
Take Care

Everyone reacts differently but I LOVE SAMe, St. John's Wort did nothing for me. I especially like that SAMe is used to improve liver health, most of us here have abused our livers so pass the SAMe : )

I second ToughIT's suggestion about lithium orotate. It is natural, non-RX, and really relaxes you and evens out moods, with no side effects (except sleepiness sometimes-- better to take smaller doses in daytime and larger doses at night).

But, as see here, and from my research, SAMe works great for many people (I know some) and there is lots of scientific evidence to back up its anti-depression properties.

Let us know how you get on.

And btw, lithium orotate is far cheaper than SAMe. And it doesn't have to be refrigerated either, unlike SAMe.
