Unhappy Need to quit now!

I am desperate to make myself stop abusing. My fix is Vodka, or anything else if I run out of that. I have a complicated medical history and have had no luck with physicians prescribing any prescription meds due to interactions with my other meds. Recently put on a small dose of Topa, 50mg daily, due to hand tremors that started about 2 mo. ago. I am so aware of the dangers of our disease as I had a sister that drank herself to death at age 48. I am 54 and want to live to 90 as I have my first grandbaby six weeks ago. I can go to social events and avoid AL altogether but seems like my worst challenge is during the day. No thing triggers me, I can just be cleaning and decide I need a swig. I have tried L-glut with no affect. Take milk thistle daily to hopefully preserve my liver but all my liver function labs are so out of wack. I know I am headed for trouble but am too stuipid to stop. Have a great husband who is so supportive - we discuss my problem at times but other times just ignore the issue. The past four days have been horrible. I have finished off half a liter of Vodka during this time and been a real jackass. I've been reading this site for some time with fear of joining but here I am. Hope the support and advice I get here can help me reach my goal to be AF during the day when alone. Thanks for listening

Hello and Welcome Gustajoe
First of all, you are not stupid!! Some of the most brilliant people that I have met are afflicted with alcohol/drug problems. We are sick people, not bad people. I can relate though. I was always beating my self up emotionally. You have come to a Great place. The people here can relate to what u are going through and are immensely helpful. Please keep checking in. Thanks to this program and the wonderful people here, I have not had a drink in 33 days for the first time in 4 years! Do you have the book? That is a great place to start. Best Wishes as you begin your journey to regain your health and to a much better life.

Gusta! Glad you are here! Crazy, what we do to ourselves, yes! I too was a Vodka drinker. Drank like crazy right before I quit! Been 120 days AF today! It can be done. I just returned from a visit with our 3 1/2 year old grandson. You are right! Tremendous reason to get sober! Good Luck!

Default Thanks for advice!

Thanks for your messages of support and encouragement. I feel certain I have come to the right place. I have read so much about MWO - do not have the book yet but plan on ordering. Not much of a book reader though. Any feedback on the CD's and Kudzu is appreciated as I am considering both. On limited funding so need o make some choices.

I have high hopes for you, myself and all of us that are afflicted with this monster.

I don't have children, or a husband, or grandchildren, but I feel apart of a family here.
I would not know who to even start out with to mention, as to the specific words spoken that have been a becon of light that brought relief.

Oh, that Vodka. I dare not return to that demon. I lost it all and was in the face of death.
I still have my battle with wine, and it too is a soul slayer at the amounts I can ingest.

Your life is a gand gift, you are so important. You already matter to the highest degree.
Keep reading and reading and in your search be sure that comfort will guide you to your self.

Sending you goodness~

Hello Gusta!

Welcome to our little world and yes you have come to a good place to help you stop this craziness.

I know it's stating the obvious, but if you are to succeed in the short run, you absolutely have to have all the alcohol out of the house. Also know you need to stop and wanting to stop are a world apart from knowing with all the conviction you can muster that you are *going* to stop, no if's and's or but's!

Gather up all the info you can here and just go for it. It can be done, you can beat this thing. Good luck!

Gustajoe - welcome! I was also a lurker for a while, but am so glad for the wisdom & encouragement here! Six weeks for me, other than one glass of wine last week (plan to mod, so not bad).
I take all the supps & found the CD's very powerful. They helped me turn a lot of negative thinking around, which in itself made it easier to say no. I highly recommend. I give them both two thumbs up.
Stick with us, this is a great place!

You can choose not to drink today. You can wake up and talk to yourself again tomorrow. That's what I do. I am not AF but I am on day 24 with a glass here and there with quite a few AF in between. I joined the gym and go after work and found that helps break up my old routine. I think it's half the battle if you can change some of your routines that you associated drinking with.

Everyday is a new day.
