Default Ugghh!!!

I would like to go to a bar/restaraunt and play cards tonight, but I know if I go I will want to drink. I don't normally want to on a Friday night, but I am exhausted and sore and just want to go hang out, have a few drinks and RELAX!!!!!

Luka, I'm sorry you are in such a tug of war with yourself. We know how hard it is.
If you are positive that you would drink, then you know we aren't going to advise you to go, hun.

I know it's not the same, but do you play cards on line? You can join a website called Pogo.com. It's free and there are all kinds of games on it. Maybe it can help take your mind off things tonight.

Good luck. We are here if you need to chat.

Love, Me

I am playing poker online right now. I have just been really couped up lately; not much else to do tonight. Next month all the cool stuff starts happening where I can go places that no not involve AL. They have free Pop concerts in the park, etc. All my friends are drinkers like me. Living in the same city all my life, one would think I could find something else to do. :(

Yeah, I understand couped up. I usually spend a lot of time in my bedroom (w/pc) and only venture to other parts of the house when I have too. I wish we had free stuff to do around here. I'd go to every free concert I could! lol

Well, that's good that you have something to look forward too. Your friends do know that you would like to cut back on drinking right? I think you told me before that they are supportive. (Forgive me if I am wrong on this). Is there anyway to "buddy up" with the designated driver so you have someone else who is not drinking? Or will you still want to drink. I know it's so hard.

Love, Me

Thanks Thankful. I am feeling much better now. The place I wanted to go to tonight actually has a bunch of old people who play that don't drink. AL is just trying to pressure me to drink tonight. He just doesn't want to see me hit another 30 days. My goal is not to be completely AF, but to drink on MY terms, not AL's, which means I have to have nights like this where I have to struggle with him in order to win!!!

You're strong, Luka. I've seen your strength shine through more than once on these boards. Stay vigilant, girl!

Remember AL doesn't taste nearly as good as sober feels. And you will start your weekend free from hangover! What could possibly be better than that?

Brilliant! Thank you. That is exactly what I have been trying to tell myself on the days when I struggle 'cept I just couldn't find the right words. That is it in a nutshell and I will add it to my sayings/reasonings to help me through the struggling times.

Bessie xx
