Help! My husband is a drinker but does not consider either of us as having a problem. He just called and he has been given tickets to go to a ball game by his boss. Now, if you are like me, you can't imagine going through an entire sporting event without drinking. He sounds upset that I am rejecting the idea. I am new and have 2 days AF under my belt and don't trust myself- I don't feel comfortable talking to him about this just yet. The other part of me is feeling more confident, considers this a challenge and thinks I can make it through. Advice please!!!

I feel for you, Bluesy. It seems early in your sobriety to be testing the waters and if you feel you are not ready...well. You can't please everybody and right know you have to concentrate on getting yourself healthy and happy.
Perhaps you should tell him what you are really trying to accomplish. Who knows, maybe he feels the same way and is afraid to tell you. Just my opinion. I hope it all works out for you. Good luck. Love, Me ![]()

Hi Bluesy- Congrats on your 2 days! When you are unsure of how you will react but think it will be too much to handle....be kind to yourself and don't go. There will be other games and other events in your life but right now you are working on yourself and you should come first. I would take best's advice and stay home and pamper yourself.
2 days is great.... Let us know what you decide- and best of luck to you on this journey ![]() Lisa |

Good post, Bluesy...
You can make this a major struggle or you can have some fun with it...... You could go to the game and not drink because 3 days ago you decided you were not going to drink....and you could have fun watching everyone drink too much, seeing how they change their behavior, knowing you use to be like that...... Don't look at it as though you are depriving yourself of something......on the contrary...you are giving yourself a gift by no longer abusing your body and mind... Don |

I totally agree.......I went to an evening wedding reception on day 3 and what an eye-opener!!!! I hadn't had such a good time in years and danced all night!! It was VERY interesting watching everyone around me,.....come to think of it, it probably motivated me to stay AF!!! Go with a positive attitude and a good plan of what you are going to drink and you'll be fine!!!

Thank you all so much for your positive input and support! I just spoke with my husband and he said he is also having second thoughts. I honestly think I will be ok either way...thanks to all you. Just bc I have quit drinking...doesn't mean my life should stop but I want to be cautious about the situations (i.e. triggers) I expose myself to. It would be nice to remember all the innings for once- ha ha! I have a bottle of water at the ready just in case we end up going.

I may be to late but here is my choice. You have chosen AF and are doing great! So instead of drinking the calories, eat the calories (ball parks have some of the best food!)and enjoy the show of watching the others make fools of themselves with the drinking nonsense!
We can still enjoy life while being AF...even more! Enjoy and have a Ball being AF! Hugs, Bambi
