One of the prices of freedom is the requirement that we name our slavery. How we dig our heels in when it's time for such honesty! We dread it so much we may refuse to even attempt change, let alone accept a program of change and stick with it. But there is no other way. We can't slip off the chains of slavery if we refuse to see where they are!
But however deep our habits or powerful our compulsions-there are others of us ...who have had the same feelings... We are not the first, ... or the worst. If we must begin by praying to want freedom, then that's where we begin...

The fears don't seem so scary when we have such a great support system:d
I'm still trying my damndest to get a reasonably priced airline tix for NYC for Aug 5th. Are none of you moderators coming?? This program and these people have changed me so much. I just GOTSTA GOTSTA meet some of you face to face!!
Drinking went fine last night again. I occasionally get these early evil thoughts, like I'm gonna drink wine at night and stay up late... but then it passes(thank God). So glad I'm not giving in to the twisted idea of drinking too much for no reason, just to make myself feel crappy in the morning. I have a couple/ few over the course of the evening which is lovely, then maybe drink some water, get the kids to bed, hot tub! and go to sleep myself and sleep great. Feeling really wonderful in the morning. It's been a good week!
I bought some of that Rolling Rock green light beer. It's only 83 calories, 2.4 carbs I think, and I'm not sure about the alcohol content, but I'm sure it's gotta be even lower than lite beer. I'll check the carton later and get back to you. Pretty good stuff. Even hubby liked it! He was impressed with the 83 calories, as we're both trying to watch it. Good lite summer beer, just FYI.
Good day planned. Farmer's Market, then to the salon for hair appt, then out on the boat, then a bday party. Early to bed, got that grp run in the am.
Everyone have a fantastic weekend!!!!

Just read the end of yesterday's thread!
How did it go? You prepared yourself well. Social occasions are always daunting at first... I blew it at that wedding a bit ago but have had all others be very successful... I'm thinking about you
Like Judie said, it must be tough knowing that you are going to be going through some tx soon. You are going armed and FABULOUS! Stay strong. Of course you can join us moderators for a few days! Do what's right for your health and your spirit, may the two find some common ground:y :d .

Good Morning! The sun is shining here after storms went through last night. Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day!
Mary, I am so sorry to now hear about your Son. My goodness you have had an awful week! I really hope, like you, that he gets to go on his trip. I will keep my fingers crossed! I will keep your Mom in my Prayers as well. I hope all goes well....hugs to you.
Welcome Mary Anne....read the book when you get it. This site is a wonderful support system, read and post often when you need the help.
Marcie, I do understand about wanting to drink when you know you won't be able to and that just makes it that much worse..... Hopefully by moderating these next few days will help keep it to a few and they won't be the bindges that they could of been! Trust me-- I KNOW "been there, done that"!
Tawny, I do hope your first big social event out was a big success!!! You planned so I am sure you Concured!
Becca, I just love Farmers Markets! Living near the Cities my Husband and I try to go to many different ones through out the summer. Sounds like you have a fun filled day planned.
Judie, Love the hampster in the wheel...I think we all feel like that now and then! I do have to say that some waitresses work very hard while others, well, don't seem to hardly work. Why do I always seem to get the later of the two:eek !:rollin
(here I was going to be nice to Helen and try to get through a whole LOONNGG post w/o emoticons...and I blow it so close to the end! Sorry Helen, I tried, really I tried!)
Okay lets see who else.....Kathy, I hope you had a nice BBQ last night. My son loves ribs so I will have to try Marcies recipe soon. Hope, I do hope summer school for your daughter is now over and that things are getting back to normal....and the ex is in his place where he belongs! Glad you could call on him in your time of need however! Lois, I hope you are enjoying you bike ride in North Carolina. I bet it is beautiful there anytime of the year!
I haven't posted for awhile and didn't want to miss anyone so hopefully I didn't! I do apologize in advance if I did....
We are enjoying our summer vacation. Going to the beach, running here and there. We moved here from Omaha 1 and 1/2 years ago and my Hubby has to go there next week for work. I will drive the kids down on next Wed., (kids are busy Mon. & Tues.) so I will drive them the 6 hours myself on Wed. Normally I wouldn't mind...except I use to smoke ALOT while driving and I still think about it driving to the store now....the 6 hours is going to be a tough one for me but I will make it! We have family and friends there that we will see and it will be alot of fun (just the driving will suck). One good thing it has helped alot with my drinking....I really haven't thought much about drinking since I quit smoking:lol . I know that I can't drink now either cause if I do then i will want a cig. and the whole cycle will start over again ! So this works for me now! :P Day 22 AF and Day 10 smoke free
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I'm just gonna get food all over me again tonight..."Might as well wait till Tues!! Or just let the river rinse it off!
Tammie, Good to see ya again! Congrats on being smoke & alky free! That's AWESOME!!:h
Yeah, the ol hampster in the wheel... it's not even "tourist" season yet...! and ready to start target practicing!! Why do they call it "Tourist Season?"... If ya can't shoot at them?
Granted, most of em are real nice people... but I've gotta admit... there are some.... that will try even the kindest most patient spirit!:eek :evil ...WHICH I"M NOT!!:lol Although, I've been able to "fake" it for hours at a time...

Well, I am in my office and while the cable is working . . I have a DVD stuck in my computer, I hear Mercury is not in retrograde yet. This is one of those times it would be better to work for someone else as they would be paying for all the down time!
Doctor took another set of xrays on the kid yesterday and said it look like he may have a chip on his shin bone. He was trying to talk him out of Europe. Has 3 physcial therapy appointments this next week and an MRI. He is pretty sore and a bit down. Of course what kid buys trip insurance? He is pretty determined but he will be in a brace and the doctor told him he would need to get up a lot to walk around the plane as injuries help cause blood clots. We will see. I saw the physical therapist late in the afternoon and she said that doctor is pretty conservative and my son was doing pretty well considering it just happened. She said it was nothing like the tear I have. So that made me happy!
Last night, I went home and had 3 rum and lime juices in a row - that took all evening though and never quite made it through the third one. I actually wanted to get a little loaded as I have been feeling so utterly overwhelmed. Think those tapes are surely working as I never got home for lunch to take those supps, never took the evenings worth and didn't listen to the tapes. Just felt like I wanted to sabbotage my efforts for an evening. While I tried - I just couldn't do it. Guess that is a good sign! Feel fine this morning. Except for not being able to get the DVD out at the moment.
Tammie, I applaud you the AF and the no smoking! WAAHOOOO!! I will say this - I got out of smoking in the car a few years back. This little trick may help you also . . . big glass of ice water and mints or favorite gum. When I went to reach for the pack of cigarettes - I would take one of the other "treats" I had brought for myself. It is nice having the car not smell like smoke! Thanks for telling me about yourself, your own mom and grandma. I too had a biopsy years ago - but I have very fibrous breasts, it was my first mamogram and they just didn't realize that is what they normally looked like. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers :h - my mom seems Ok with this, my dad is a tough cookie except when it comes to my mom. so I am going to bring some good jokes along with me to help keep his spirit up. Just be there to hold his hand.
Tawny - I bet you did super yesterday as you are very determined to stay the course. Good for you!
Becca -We have a Farmers Market near my office on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings. I just LOVE the summer for the fresh herbs, veggies and fruits. Having your hair done is always a nice perk. Have a great day!
Judie - there are always people like that, trying the most patient of saints! :rollin How about the ones who although they are a pleasant sort of person must remake the meal to their own specifications. . . Hold the mayo, grill the onions, give me the dressing on the side etc, etc. Spend 20 minutes taking my one dish order. :rolleyes
Kathy - Hope you are doing well.
Hope - Hoping your daughter is at peace with not being around that awful guy.
Lois - I bet you are having some fun!
Mary Ann - post away, you did great telling your story. I think you will enjoy this program and feeling better about your health in no time.
Hope I didn't miss anyone. Have a great weekend all of you, will catch you on Tuesday.
:h :d :P

Just getting around to posting, as I had to get up and out this morning to see a few clients. Reading over the posts from yesterday and today, I can see there's a lot going on!!
I feel sad, as my mother is going back to New York tomorrow, and she has been a great source of support to me in the week that she has been here. I know that she is itching to get home, though, she has a lot that she wants to get done there. It has been great to have another adult in the house, let me tell you!!! I must say, too, that my daughter has been on her best behavior, and I have appreciated that.
Anyway, the BBQ last night went nicely. It was cloudy, but that kept the temps down, and it didn't rain. I didn't behave TOO badly, 4 glasses of wine all night, and Marcie, the ribs were absolutely delicious--I had to be very careful with them on the grill, because they WERE falling off the bones!!!:eek Anyway, my guests were highly complimentary, as was my mother, who declared that she didn't LIKE ribs before the party, but was a convert afterwards!:rollin (I told her she would like them. I think the only ribs she has had before were the kind you get at Chinese takeout...)
Anyway, that was my last night and today has been okay. Had a nice nap today. Four glasses of wine and a good night's sleep don't go together very well....
Welcome to everyone new, and take care.

I worked with hubby building a shed in our backyard all day and a few hours Friday night too. We are about half done. His mom was supposed to pick up his sister from about 40 miles away Friday night and they both were going to help today. Well something came up and MIL didn't go get SIL until today. By the time they got back home it was already 12:30 and we had been working for 4 hours. Needless to say we didn't need their help anymore. The hardest parts were up!
We were going to cook out after working on the shed all day. Well, I called and said lets just have dinner at your house because I haven't went shopping yet and I don't want to stop working. Well MIL said she hadn't been shopping yet either, and made it sound like it was too hard for her to go this afternoon. I was a little annoyed. I'm over it though, guess I'm getting a little tired and crabby from working on the shed. It downpoured for an hour and a half late this afternoon, so we did take a break, but went back out as soon as it stopped. I don't mind doing the work at all, don't get me wrong, but they offered to help, and then didn't.
Anyway, that is my bitch for today. I will have a glass of wine when we finish up within the next hour. My hubby doesn't like to use the saw after 8ish, last night until 10pm the guy across the street was cutting lumber. I told hubby we could probably work until 9. Just came inside for a few minutes.
Have a great night everyone!

Yeee-hah! I survived a Social Occasion
Yes - I did drink the entire bottle of red. BUT - I was at the bbq from 2pm to 11pm, so spread over nine hours I don't feel bad about that at all. It was, after all, a "special" occasion. The best part is that I remember all the conversations I had with people, going home, going to bed etc. And I DID have fun.
A good trick, I think, is to leave your glass in one place and not carry it around while mingling. I had to make an effort to weave my way through the crowd and back to my "drinking station."
So, it's back to my 3 per day - all's well.
