        sleep problems?

For years I tried every over the counter sleep concoction known to man because I had a horrible time sleeping. Some nights not even a minute.......The worst. Then a few years ago I decided to try Melatonin and it has not left my bedside since. For me anyway it has worked the best. Good luck to all those with sleep problems...... I know what you are going through. It is like purgatory on top of the hell that drinking brings you....

          sleep problems?

yes, I do believe the melatonin works right away from day 1. I was told not to take it until right before I go to bed because it works so fast and to never take it in the day (unless I want to be sleeping then, of course!). It is also supposed to be good for many other long-term health benefits. There was a slight scare about it a few years back but I believe that was not substantiated and most doctors concur it is safe and in fact quite good for you at the recommended doses (3 mg, I think). Valerian is also good, I can say from experience, it is a natural relaxant (can be taken in the day if you need to calm down)-- it takes an hour or so to start working. Sleep is good!

            sleep problems?

Has anyone got experience of any particular food that helps you sleep? I read somewhere that eating a banana just before bedtime can make you sleep better...or eating some starch like a cracker? Some people swear by a hot milky drink at bedtime but I don't want to be getting up for a pee in the small hours (I leave that to my husband :H )

I can usually get to sleep...I just can't stay asleep....and I spend the night listening to my husband snoring and the dog dreaming (noisily) of rabbits.........:upset:
Just hand me the chocolate and.........I'll consider my position. My solicitor has advised me to say no more than that.

              sleep problems?

I find I sleep better on an empty stomach... well, I mean if I haven't eaten for at least 2 hours before I go to sleep. But everyone is different.

I know chamomile tea is supposed to be good. With all the hops, beer is a good one too, hehe (but not good for the peeing problem).

Yeh, I've also heard the banana one, as well as a watercress sandwich (??? I have no idea where I got that from, but I'm sure I read it somewhere).

                sleep problems?

From what I understand it's slightly underripe bananas - they have a bit of tryptophan I believe. Same as with warm milk. My ex-husband was told to try both when he got out of rehab several years ago.
I LOVE my melatonin, and don't need it very often. Seems I take it once and it sets my sleeper for awhile and I'm good.

also a big fan of melatonin.. I like the sublingual kind. The fast disolve works well for me. If I have had a particularly stressful day, I will either take an l-glut when I get home or a few clames forte, that helps me to wind down as well...

                    sleep problems?

You know you can take melatonin every day. In fact, many naturalist doctors recommend it. Melatonin is apparently good for more than sleep, something to do with aging, not sure what.

It's also excellent for jet lag and/or avoiding it. You have to take it on some kind of schedule for a few days before you leave. It's supposed to reset your body somehow to be in synch with the time zone you are flying to. (Anyone know more about this? I'm obviously flailing here.)

Anyway, I know many people who take it every night, and I have started to do that too.

                      sleep problems?

                      Difficulty sleeping

                      Hi All,

I have found in the past that a hot milky drink and a good book send me off to nod pronto, even at very stressful times, like at uni etc. I know a lot of "specialists" in this area recommend that people do not carry out "stimulating" activities whilst preparing for sleep - but reading is great. Also, the best milky drink is Ovaltine, I dunno if you can buy it in your local stores in the states/oz etc. Sweet dreams to you all,

                      jj

                        sleep problems?

I have a self hypnosis cd which works well. If you get off to sleep ok and wake after
a while it could be a symptom of depression, so if it continues perhaps you should
see your doctor. Good luck. Paula.
