Prescribing Topamax for Bi-Polar/Mood Disorder

Hi Dr. Garcia,

I was wondering if you have every heard of prescribing Topamax for Bi-polar or Mood Disorder? I was researching and came across a few sites where people were taking it for this but wasn't sure if this was an off-label use and also if this was effective for treating this condition or not? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks so much.

Topamx is often given with Seroquel (a medication used to treat bipolar disorder). Topamax helps to prevent weight gain, which is common with Seroquel therapy.
