    Easy Sleazy Slaw

    using your mighty cuisinart or similar kitchen
    wizardry...shred the cabbage and set aside. I used a
    grater blade so it came out in very small bits. Like it was
    grated. d-uh!
    using a chopping blade, chop up the almonds until they are
    fairly fine but not dust.
    in a large bowl add the garlic (smashed and chopped)
    then olive oil (amount will vary depending on volume of
    other stuff)
    zest of an entire orange
    about a cup of good black brine cured olives (like gaeta or
    kalamata) chopped only in half or quarters.
    S&P
    mix and let it sit for as long as you can stand it.
    note: the olives should provide the acid kick this needs. if
    you run out of olives then add a splash of the brine from
    the jar.
    be sure to use a really good olive oil...or I will find out!

    oh, and yes...walnuts would be super instead of almonds.
    or pinenuts if you can afford that many of them.

    if you wan to turn this into a full blown meal add feta
    cheese. and call me when it's ready.

      I'd suggest 2 cloves as a minimum....werewolves and vamipres are everywhere and we can't be too cautious.

            this sounds great

            I used to make one like it
            dills to replace olives
            sunflower seeds to replace other nuts
            parmesan to replace feta
            and no orange as I am allergic

            haven't made it in ages but was one of my usual things to eat when young and single

                KatieSmiles, I used to chop everything by hand too but then Dx got me the biggest baddest nuclear inferno of a cuisinart you ever saw...gleaming stainless steel purring with power.....kitchen-shaking eruptions of flying vegetables!!!!!!!!

                  I'm going to the grocery store tomorrow !!! Love having another recipe for MORE OLIVES, and GARLIC.

                  That will keep me happy for the rest of the week...good thing I will be alone..or not...hmmm

                      This reminds me of a slaw recipe I picked up the other day (I think I left it in my office or I'd post it now) that uses froz. concentrate orange juice, some rice vinegar and just a little bit of oil. Oh, and has fresh corn kernels in it too. I had a sample, it was delish!

                      Cabbage with kalamatas ... I dunno Det. But I'll trust you and try it.

                        Det, you absolutely crack me up….

                        I have lots of cabbage in the garden and dug up my garlic last month. I have a crap load of garlic; one never knows when they may need 15# of garlic, right? I’m making this today!!
                        My sis makes a Haitian slaw with red cabbage, it’s hot hot. I should dig out the recipe and post it.
