    Newbie needs help

Hi I'm a 34 year old girl who's life has been blighted by alcohol abuse. I desperately want to give up so that I can marry a wonderful man who has put up with my terrible behaviour caused by drink and who wants to stand by me and support me as much as he can.

He's a nurse so has lots of experience with acloholics and understands that it is a disease not just something we choose to do to ourselves.

I have started taking Kudzu today and I hope it will take the edge of the cravings and help when I do actually drink. I'm in a pattern of binge drinking every 3 or 4 days so this has been my 1st none drinking day. I get very angry at myself because I can be fine for a few days then the cravings start.

I just hope I can get a grip on this because if I lose my wonderful man I think I will spiral out of control and begin drinking daily again like I used to.

    :thanks:

    Welcome Aboard

    Hi Kitty,

I too am 34 and have been blighted by alcohol for the last decade. I can totally understand what you are saying about destroying relationships. I am not a happy drunk anymore. I take everything the wrong way or negatively when I drink these days.

I quit almost a week ago with the exception (I guess that isn't really quitting - but close for me anyway) of two drinks with my mother on Saturday afternoon. (I had to dump the bottle that was left here out of sheer panick of getting drunk again).

Just keep posting. You will find a lot of comfort and support here. You will find someone who has a simular story or simular drinking habit as you do. You are doing a wonderful thing admitting to yourself you have a problem when you drink. That is a HUGE first step.

    You hang in there. :welcome:

      Hi Kitty

Have you read the My Way Out book yet? It has some excellent insights and a flexible program to help you on your journey.

Just click on the tabs (or whatever they are) at the top of the page to get the info on the book. You can print it right away or order it.

I ordered it and felt like Roberta Jewel knew exactly who I was. Whether you are a binge drinker or imbibe every day - I was both at different times - this program really rings a bell for a lot of people fighting their craving for alcohol.

Check it out and see what you think. And keep posting and reading and reading and posting.

      Welcome.

      Helen

i think that one of the most powerful parts of the program is the hypno cd.
regular use of that will surely give you a lot of control over cravings
you have to use the cd's every day for at least 2 weeks.results do vary but most people find them effective.
hope you get on the path with us

Thanks for the advise guys. I will download the book tonight when I get home from work (I think I can pay by paypal) but do you know if I can order the CD's from here in the UK?

          :thanks:

            Hi thisisland baby,

I too have the problem of negative thinking. I should be very happy that I have found a man who is willing to support me as I try and fight this but I sometimes do my hardest to drive him away.

I used to feel irritable and angry only the morning after drinking but it seems to last much longer now and these feelings can last a few days until I start drinking again, getting worse once the cravings start again.

A vicous circle really, like a train that I got on and is now going to fast for me to get off. Oh well this is the start of my seond day without drinking and I feel ok so far.

I'm finding this site a great help, reading loads of messages certaintly fills in the time I could be drinking.

            :thanks:

              Kitty,
In addition to this site, I would highly recommend seeing a doctor, too, and visiting a therapist on a weekly basis, at least initially. I am doing all of that, combined with vitamins and supps, and I have found it to be highly effective. I've been alochol free for ten days and loving it. Best of luck.

                Thanks Andy,

I am abit reluctant about going back to the doctor because they were very supportive before and reffered me to an addiction specialist but I dropped out after just a few sessions. I'm going to bite the bullet though and go back as I'm sure they will be helpful again.

                :thanks:

                  Don't Fear the Doc!

                  Hello Kitty!

Please don't have the fear to see your doctor. He/She is there for you no matter what. Even if you did drop out of a program.

I GUARANTEE you he has seen many, many people who came to him with this problem, referred them, and they come back to him saying they dropped out. Think of it like smoking. They say it takes an average of 7 attempts to actually quit! You wont be the first and you definitely wont be the last.

Your doctor is getting paid to treat people. No matter WHO you are or WHAT problem you may have. They are in the profession of Humanity & of course Medicine, and like to help people. Your doctor will be more than willing to work with you on this. I promise!

I went to my doctor, was referred to Detox, came out of Detox, got wasted, went back to the Doctor, got wasted etc.... My doctor has seen me a few times in regards to wanting to come off of the alcohol. He was proud that I wanted to help myself and was willing to try whatever treatment there was that I haven't tried yet.

You have to find it within yourself to believe you are worth it. Because you are. Your doctor will see it as respecting yourself enough to want to get help. He will help you until you don't want the help or need the help anymore.

Try and Try again - without Shame!:l
