    Friday, December 8th

Good morning everyone!!! I was thinking this morning about how wonderful this forum is and how great it is that I got to meet all of you. I was contacted by a representative of the State of New Jersey to meet on a prospective project together, so it really got my wheels spinning. So, I am now reflecting on my goals, where I am on them and where I want to be, both personally, career, and drinking. So often in programs like this, we focus on what is not working, which is important so that we can continue to improve. But I think every once in a while it is important to reflect on the positive changes that have already occurred. I know the holiday season is upon us, most of us currently focusing on Christmas and Channukah! But for us, we should also be thinking about New Year and the resolutions we're going be making!!! I'm hoping if I start thinking about my New Year resolution for drinking that it will help me to stay focused through the holidays!
So, here are the positive changes that I have been able to perfect since I joined here a month and a half ago, along with those I hope to make my New Year's resolution!

    1. I no longer drink when cooking (except for last minute preparations before dinner).
    2. I now do stress management by taking aromatherpahy baths and listening to music, which has helped to decrease my drinking, as well as given me a much more positive outlook on things.
    3. I now have "travel management", where I carefully plan my travels so that I don't drink -- this is important since I travel so much.
    4. I now stop drinking at least two hours before going to bed -- it has been great at training me to stop drinking and I always go to bed sober.
    5. I am now exercising at least once a day.

My New Years Resolutions (that I plan to start psyching myself up for now) are
    1. Stop drinking alcohol at lunch.
    2. Limit myself to three glasses a day (except holidays).
    3. Implement the new Perricone diet cookbook (which I'm hoping to get for Christmas).
    4. Exercise at least twice a day.
    5. Stop drinking in excess when I get angry with my husband or upset with my parents!

OK -- That's where I am and where I hope to be. It is going to be challenging!!

Thank you for allowing me to post this! You all probably didn't need to hear this, but I definitely needed to say it!! Thanks for your patience.

I'd love to hear from others about their successes and their hopes for the New Year!

    Have a great day!!

    MM
PS - Has anyone heard from Hawk? I didn't see a post, but I could have missed it.
Saving the day one minute at a time!

Thank you all so much for all the kind words, good wishes and encouragement yesterday. I felt strong when I finally went to surgeon. They cannot same definitively what it is. Just that it is very odd, has its own blood supply (which evidently gives them concern and is why they will not rule out something bad) and that it needs to come out ASAP. So, it?s coming out on 12/20. I?m just happy that I am moving forward in addressing the issue. I?m sure it will be OK. Thanks again so much for all your support. It means more than you know!:h

E ? The whole mess with the walls sounds awful! Good for you for being strong and getting thru AF. Times like that offer plenty of ?excuses.? I do hope your asthma stays in check and the repairs get underway without too much ado.

Imagine ? Hope the interview went well. Waiting to hear is the hardest part, isn?t it?

SM Mary ? I?m glad to know I?m not the only one behind in getting things done for holidays! I LOVE the story of moving Mary & Joseph!! I?ll be sharing that one (with your permission of course!)

Mighty Mouse ? WHERE do you get all this energy! Can you spare some?? Great news on your son. I was president of Model UN in college. We were a very small school and kept getting crappy little countries that nobody needed. A lot of my ?team? would defect and seek out parties?.very bad girls. I love your reflections on what you have gained and resolutions. Now is a good time to reflect on those things so that you are ready to go for new year. I am going to work on that! :thanks:

Mike ? Glad to hear from you. Kids stuff can make for a long day but those days are ones you remember!

Beth ? Enjoy your days of freedom. I worked like a maniac for a long time and then just left that world. Its nice to wake up and enjoy the day.

Paula ? Glad you gave up the gang. Gotta say that I wouldn?t mind getting tired out by that group (wink, wink). I love your sense of humor!

Mary ? You always have such nice things to say! Hope you made progress on the cards. They are time consuming little buggers, aren?t they?

Becca ? Still thinking of you and hoping you are doing OK. Big hugs headed to you,

Fsophiah ? I love your tradition and that your son carries it on! Hope the kitchen gets wrapped up soon. I know what you mean - its hard to entertain the idea of pulling more stuff into the mix when what?s already there isn?t where it should be! Good luck with the papers ? I think it must be a tough job!

    Denise ? Welcome!

Lush, Waves, Paul and anyone else I missed yesterday - hope you had a good one yesterday and a better one today!

    Hugs all around !!

      Friday, December 8th

      Hi everyone,
Well, it's Friday - one of the hardest days of the week for me not to drink. I say one of because if I make it through Friday and then happen to make it through Saturday without getting drunk, I ultimately get trashed on Sunday and ruin the beginning of the week.
This weekend is setting itself up for that by being really busy today, less tomorrow and have nothing to do on Sunday. Today I am in school until 3 and go to work at 4. In between I need to get home and feed and walk the 5 dogs (4 rottweilers and one husky) I am dog sitting. I work in a restaraunt and so will be at work 'til 12 or 1. All the people that work there will want to go drink - beers and shots- after work. I am going to tell them I need to get home to study for finals next week and maybe they will leave me alone. Why does it seem everyone in the food industry parties so much?
Anyway, that is my excuse not to get drunk for today...we'll see what comes up tomorrow.

Hawk - Yes, it's always a concern when a mass has developed it's own blood supply but it seems like you found it early and are getting it out quickly - those are both VERY important! Keep us informed on what they find out.

To everyone else - don't know you yet but please have a happy and safe weekend.

Sometimes I talk myself out of drinking by knowing how much more relaxing my days off will be without being hung-over! It seems that with whatever you're trying to accomplish it all starts with your mindset when you think about or take the first drink.

        Morning all!!

Hawk, I am so glad you will be getting that taken care of before the holidays. Will that be the end of it, once it is out, or is there more testing to be done. You are in my thoughts.

Fan, sounds like you have a busy, busy weekend. Have a great time. I would love to see you working concessions. Are you a loud obnoxious seller, or are you more of the reserved type. I will let you decide which one you think I would be. Have a great one.

MM - Do you work out of your house? I do not know how there is enough time in a day to do what you do if you work 8-5.

I have my annual cookie exchange tonight with my drinker friends. I have a plan and I have asked my non drinking friend to help me implement it and not get caught up in the moment, and definitely do not let anyone fill up my drink when I am not looking. I cannot have tomorrow ruined as we have to get a tree and a basketball game, etc. Social events are killer for me because I lose track, think I will not feel like crap the next morning, get chatting too much that I do not eat. I will be good tonight though. I have won first place the last two years for my cookies and am hoping I will win again tonight. We are a very competitive bunch!!

Anyhow, SM, MKR, Rachele, Jen, Allie (Allie where are you? how is the trip going?), Paula (the biker guys called me after you dumped them. I will be joining them next month), Waves (I bet you laughed out loud at the license plate. That was funny), and anyone else I am not mentioning....be well. Have a great weekend!!! Love you guys.

        P.S. Jude, you feeling better?
I'm really easy to get along with once people learn to worship me

          Good Morning Mods,

          Cool note this morning too:
Sometimes it may help to remember, that here, everyone believes in you.
          Are we cool, or what?

MM, nice thought for the holidays. Good Idea to contemplate the process especially if it helps get through the holidays.

Hawk sweetie, I am glad you have the surgery scheduled. Will it be day surgery or are they thinking on keeping you for awhile? In my thoughts and prayers.

Mike, did we mention lately what a great dad you are?! Concession stands can be fun getting to meet a bunch of the kids and parents.

Welcome Denise, on the other thread. Good job already.

Lush, Waves - loved the license plate!

Tomorrow is our anniversary so I will not be back here as I promised my husband I would take the day off. More and more he keeps making noises about me retiring and staying home to play with him. Some days that is very enticing. . .

I for one am so thankful for each and everyone of you, Lush, Judie, Becca, Allie, Rachele, SM Mary - loved the traveling Mary and Joseph story! Waves back is better thanks for asking, Tracy, Paul, Gypsi, Tu Madre, Jen, Macks good luck on Monday, Mary Anne, Trish, Preciouspinot, Dilayne and anyone I missed, I am sorry.

          Have a great weekend everyone!

          Love and Hugs,
          Mary

Hello Muffins! Wow, I missed a day on this thread and some much is going on. I went to the NAAR/Autism Speaks kickoff luncheon yesterday for the upcoming walk in Feb.( I'll be hitting you guys up for donations after the new year). I have been feeling under the weather but, today I am on the mend. Tonight I'm taking the kids to the school Winterfest so no temptations for this Friday night.

MM- you really need to change your name to the energizer bunny, I swear you wear me out

Hawk- I have just now said a silent prayer for you although I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. My father is a surgeon and takes masses out all the time and it's rarely anything. Just better to be safe than sorry.

Mike- I have to giggle thinking about you working those concession stands. I don't mean for this to sound condesending or trite but, I have to say that you have really come a long way baby since you first came here. I'm glad to se you in a happier place!

Big Holiday Cheer Welcome to Denise and Dove

Lush- you really slay me with your competive side! If we were on Survivor together I would definately make you an ally

Mary- thanks again for words from the universe and all your helpful advice here on the boards

Di- I haven't heard anything else about how it's going with you and dropping the "artist" lable

Judie, Becca, Allie, Rachele, SM Mary, Waves, Tracy, Paul, Gypsi, Tu Madre, Jen, Macks , Mary Anne where are you guys?
Sometimes I wonder...."Why is that frisbee getting bigger?"...and then it hits me.

Just finished the annual lessons and carols service at my school. It was beautiful as usual. The various choirs and bell choirs and violin players and all the carols were so lovely that it made up for all the work I've had to do this week. I've been thinking about you, becca. I hope you are okay. Same with all the rest of everyone. Hawk, speedy treatment is best. Lush, I hope your cookies wow the girls. Keep your glass in your hand. Thinking of you guys today.

I made 60 pounds of wax in the last three days. Cleaning up now and having friends over tonight for chili

Lush - I thnk I may try your idea of getting a friend to help me moderate while socialising. I've got an early Xmas celebration with work colleagues on Monday.

This is my first year using "Soy"

I had a perfect recipe using paraffin wax but they discontinued my wax so I wanted to try the soy. I'm still tweaking it. I may start using a blend of paraffin and soy for optimum results.

I'm always trying new things but I have to limit my scents to a handful so I don't get stuck with Christmas scents in the spring and summer.

This year I tried my hand at making scented lotion......it was really easy and I got the lotion pumps from Kohl's on sale for $5.00 each. I think they will make nice gifts.

RACHELE!!! Those are beautiful. What vibrant colors. Do you ever sell them at fairs or is it too much work. I wish I was on your gift list. And you make lotion too? Okay, who is more Martha now? Certainly not me.

And PP, I really am not that competitive. Okay, maybe I am. All right dammit I am. So what????!!! I would be horrible on Survivor though. Could not go that long without eating. However, it would be good for the wine habit, wouldn't it??
