New here and tired of my ways....

    Hello All,
I'm new here but not new to the drinking problem...I'm a 37 year old female from Germany and have been downing way too many beers on a daily basis since my college years...I have tried to quit (9 months AF at times) and moderate but moderation doesn't seem to work for me---the drinks sneak up to non-moderation levels frequently...I'm not ready to say I will never drink again. Trouble is that my husband and I do enjoy drinking beer a lot. Right now, 4 beers a day would be moderation by my terms. I know that sounds like a lot but is a lot better than 10-15 a day. I think, eventually, I would be happy with 3 beers a day. I feel great the next morning when I drink at those levels. Any input on how to be able to "moderate" vs. abstain?

Welcome. I would recommend downloading or buying the book. She outlines a really good program with supplements and anti-craving tools.......best of luck

      Welcome Moderation!

Abstaining versus Moderating is a personal choice, and as you mentioned moderation has been difficult for you lately. As Lush said, the book will help point you in the right direction - and will help give you the tools to decide which one is right for you (and help you get there).

      Best of luck! :welcome:

        Hi ModerationNow
Lush is right - downloading the book and reading as much as you can from the boards is the best way to get the info you need to start. Welcome!

          Welcome ModerationNow,

You will find so much help and support on this site, I wish you all the best with the moderation, as it takes a real strong person to 'just have a couple', I know I'm not strong enough to do that.

          Welcome:welcome:

Thank you all for your warm welcome!
If you guys are moderating your alcohol intake, how much do you drink? I know that there are different standards depending on where you live...In Germany as many as 4 a day is considered "moderate". Gosh, I'd be a better person if I could keep it at 4...I know it should probably be even less than that!:thanks:

              Hello ModerationNow!

I am new to this site as well. I just joined last week. I read the book, ordered the supps, and have talked to my Dr about Topamax. I'm still waiting to hear back about that since the doc wanted to read up and learn more before prescribing.

You're right, moderation is different for everyone. I usually drink between 8-10 vodka drinks every night. I would love that to be three, with even a few AF days during the week. Just by being on this site I am down to 6. Sounds like a lot still, but it was achieved with only the support from people on this site who understand what I am going through. Imagine what I can do when the supps kick in!

You are in for a lot of love and caring from all over the world when you stay tuned to this site.

Best of luck and keep posting!

                Hi ModerationNow

I too, wish to drink in moderation , not to excess, as my husband has a fabulous wine cellar and a lot of our socialising is with friends who enjoy good wines. However, when I was drinking excessively it did not matter whether it was good wine or not . I really would not know the difference. Iam now sipping and enjoying the good stuff with a lot of AF days in between. I read somewhere that having one or two glasses a day with water in between each glass is Ok as long as there is a few days break in between ..........time for the liver to metabolise the alcohol.

                Good luck

                Take care

Well from what I have read it's a fine line between those who can moderate and those who can't. I have been AF for for about two weeks than got drunk, AF for about 9 days than got drunk, AF for another 12 days than got drunk. I thought that was great but now about a month and a half into it that is not great.
It is way better than what I was doing, but I think moderating is a slippery slop for alot of us and when we think we have been so good we deserve a good time we binge. I am learning as I go and can only tell you that each person is different and I have learned so much from reading all the posts.
