    af Tuesday 7 May

    MAE Abbers
Thanks Kuya, Mick, PPQP, Cinders, YahYah, Lav and others for all the support last night. I could hear what you were saying. I was able to talk with partner and daughter later in the evening - not perfect - but at least we have communication going. Throughout all of the tension she managed to finish a very good art assignment (not sure if that link between arguments and creativity is healthy though!!! what does the artist say - LTLW??). And lots and lots of hugs. Again, not sure if that is what the psychs recommend (pain followed by expressions of love - leads to co-dependency some say !!!!) but it sure helps.

Sunny day today but I have a pile of serious work work to do. No buts today.

Again, thanks mates and guess what I never wanted to suck on the bottle last night although I did allow myself two chocolate biscuits!! :H

Quick post ..lots to do so have a great day everyone

A man with a winking problem applies for a position as a traveling salesman and goes in for an interview.
"Looking at your r?sum?, I can see that you're more than qualified," says the interviewer. "Unfortunately, we can't have our sales reps constantly winking at customers, so we can't hire you."
"But wait," says the man. "If I take two aspirin, I stop winking."
"Then show me," replies the interviewer.
So the guy reaches into his pants pocket and pulls out a pile of condoms in all different shapes, sizes, and colors before finally finding a packet of aspirin. He pops the pills and immediately stops winking.
"It's great you stopped winking," says the interviewer, "but we can't have our salesmen womanizing all over the country."
"What do you mean?" asks the man. "I'm happily married."
"How do you explain all the condoms?" asks the interviewer.
"Oh, that," sighs the man. "Have you ever walked into a pharmacy, winking, and asked for aspirin?"

A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer, ?This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you.? The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks, ?Which do you want, son?? The boy takes the quarters and leaves. ?What did I tell you?? said the barber. ?That kid never learns!? Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store. ?Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?? The boy licked his cone and replied, ?Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!?

A guy has a talking dog. He brings it to a talent scout. "This dog can speak English," he claims to the unimpressed agent. "Okay, Sport," the guys says to the dog, "what?s on the top of a house?" "Roof!" the dog replies. "Oh, come on..." the talent agent responds. "All dogs go ?roof?." "No, wait," the guy says. He asks the dog "what does sandpaper feel like?" "Rough!" the dog answers. The talent agent gives a condescending blank stare. He is losing his patience. "No, hang on," the guy says. "This one will amaze you. " He turns and asks the dog: "Who, in your opinion, was the greatest baseball player of all time?" "Ruth!" goes the dog. And the talent scout, having seen enough, boots them out of his office onto the street. And the dog turns to the guy and says "Maybe I shoulda said DiMaggio?"

A guy is sitting at home when he hears a knock at the door. He opens the door and sees a snail on the porch. He picks up the snail and throws it as far as he can. Three years later, there?s a knock on the door. He opens it and sees the same snail. The snail says "What the hell was that all about?"

A guy meets a hooker in a bar. She says, "This is your lucky night. I?ve got a special game for you. I?ll do absolutely anything you want for $300, as long as you can say it in three words." The guy replies, "Hey, why not?" He pull his wallet out of his pocket, and one at a time lays three hundred-dollar bills on the bar, and says, slowly: "Paint?my?house.
Two campers are walking through the woods when a huge brown bear suddenly appears in the clearing about 50 feet in front of them. The bear sees the campers and begins to head toward them. The first guys drops his backpack, digs out a pair of sneakers, and frantically begins to put them on. The second guys says, "What are you doing? Sneakers won?t help you outrun that bear." "I don't need to outrun the bear," the first guy says. "I just need to outrun you."

TV commercials now show you how detergents take out bloodstains, a pretty violent image there. I think if you've got a T-shirt with a bloodstain all over it, maybe laundry isn't your biggest problem

Saul is working in his store when he hears a booming voice from above: "Saul, sell your business." He ignores it. It goes on for days. "Saul, sell your business for $3 million." After weeks of this, he relents, sells his store. The voice says ?Saul, go to Las Vegas." He asks why. "Saul, take the $3 million to Las Vegas." He obeys, goes to a casino. Voice says, "Saul , go to the blackjack table and put it down all on one hand." He hesitates but knows he must. He?s dealt an 18. The dealer has a six showing. "Saul, take a card." What? The dealer has -- "Take a card!" He tells the dealer to hit him. Saul gets an ace. Nineteen. He breathes easy. "Saul, take another card." What? "TAKE ANOTHER CARD!" He asks for another card. It?s another ace. He has twenty. "Saul, take another card," the voice commands. I have twenty! Saul shouts. "TAKE ANOTHER CARD!!" booms the voice. Hit me,Saul says. He gets another ace. Twenty one. The booming voice goes: "un-fucking-believable!"

Last night I went to a 24-hour grocery. When I got there, the guy was locking the front door. I said, "Hey, the sign says you're open 24 hours." He goes: "Not in a row!"

A Jewish man is walking on the beach when he discovers a bottle containing genie. He rubs it and a genie comes out, promises to grant him one wish. He says, "Peace in the Middle east, that's my wish." The genie looks concerned, then says "No, I'm sorry, that's just not possible. Some things just can't be changed. Do you have another wish?" The guys says 'Well...for my whole life I've never receievd oral sex from my wife. That would be my wish." The genie pauses for another moment and then says "How would you define peace?"

Two guys are walking down the street when a mugger approaches them and demands their money. They both grudgingly pull out their wallets and begin taking out their cash. Just then one guy turns to the other and hands him a bill. "Here?s that $20 I owe you," he says.

A father is explaining ethics to his son, who is about to go into business. "Suppose a woman comes in and orders a hundred dollars worth of material. You wrap it up, and you give it to her. She pays you with a $100 bill. But as she goes out the door you realize she?s given you two $100 bills. Now, here?s where the ethics come in: should you or should you not tell your partner?"

My sister was with two men in one night. She could hardly walk after that. Can you imagine? Two dinners!

They say animal behavior can warn you when an earthquake is coming. Like the night before that last earthquake hit, our family dog took the car keys and drove to Arizona.

Jesus and Saint Peter are golfing. St. Peter steps up to the tee on a par three and hits one long and straight. It reaches the green. Jesus is up next. He slices it. It heads over the fence into traffic on an adjacent street. Bounces off a truck, onto the roof of a nearby shack and into the rain gutter, down the drain spout and onto a lilly pad at the edge of a lake. A frog jumps up and snatches the ball in his mouth. An eagle swoops down, grabs the frog. As the eagle flies over the green, the frog croaks and drops the ball. It?s in the hole. Saint Peter looks at Jesus, exasperated. "Are you gonna play golf?" he asks "Or are you just gonna fuck around?"

Two Irish guys are fishing. The first guy reels in his line and sees that he's snagged an old bottle. As he's taking it off the hook, a genie pops out and promises to grant him one wish. "Turn the lake into beer," he says. The genie goes "Poof!" and the lake turns into beer. He says to the other guy, "So what do you think?" The other guy says, "You jerk. Now we've got to piss in the boat."

      af Tuesday 7 May

      Good Morning,

While it is still dark out, I can at least see some stars this morning. My body and soul are anticipating some actual sunshine today once Sol makes his presence known.

TT, One thing we discussed in all three rehabs I was in (sheesh, slow on the uptake here..) is that addicts tend to have issues with defining and being strong about our personal limits. Our last arguments with our family are good examples of this. In my case, when my husband went off the deep end about something so trivial as setting up a universal remote control, it was alright for him to be frustrated, there will always be communication problems in dealing with others, etc. What was not acceptable was being yelled at by him and his derogatory remarks towards me.

Today, now that the incident is past and there is no anger involved, I plan on discussing calmly with him that his behavior was unacceptable, not his feelings. In the future, I will not accept that behavior and walk away until his behavior is acceptable. Not looking forward to this. Almost 37 years of marriage and the same behavior throughout will mean this will happen again and it will be difficult to break the cycle but I must stand strong in order to keep my own psyche well.

Mick, some great jokes this morning. Thanks.

      Waves to all to come.

      Love,
      Cindi

          Mick,

No apologies necessary. I always hesitate to name people in my posts because I know I will inevitably miss someone and worry about hurt feelings. No hurt here.

I am doing very well, thank you for asking. This is my longest stretch sober on my own without rehab or lock down, in many years. Some days are rough, as all here share, but I decided that no matter what, no matter how bad, no matter how anxious, etc, I will face it sober.

I get to enjoy the good with the bad. Drinking, I avoided the bad but also avoided the good.

...defining and being strong about my personal limits is life long learning for me. Good luck with the discussion and breaking the 37 years of behaviour. Celebrate the small victories as I think you have a long road ahead of you.

...found more coffee yesterday, had a busy and good day, bit of running around after work, home and fed and then realized I didn't buy any coffee. :wow: So back out to the store as I was not going to be coffeeless this morning. Have a great mulching day.

Well, writing to report I had wine last night. Does this get me ejected from this forum?
I hope not as you have all been a wonder source of energy for me. Oh, Lavande- forgot to thank you for the bean recipe. Bedankt.
I won't makes excuses for myself. I caved under stress, enough said. One became 'Well I failed so may as well enjoy my miserable little self." I am not giving up on myself though. I can't. I am just going to promise myself to have more AF days this month than last month.
And I better get some of that L-Glutamine. I just came from trying to find it without luck. Maybe I have to order through this site? Let me try in the City center tomorrow.
Feeling rather miserable about myself just now. Why can't I do this? I guess I do need more help than I wanted to think.

                Hey Winter,

You don't get ejected for a slip. Sorry, hon, but you don't get off that easy! I would recommend the L-Glut from this site. This site tends to have high-quality products, and the prices are just a bit more than the least expensive that you can find. Anyway, keep up with your goal of having fewer AL days this month than last. What if you could make yesterday your ONLY AL day? That would be a real accomplishment! Hang in there.

That comes to a question that I've been wondering about. I still have my signature as AF as of August 5, 2012. I did have 2 glasses of wine back in mid-February, but I'll be damned if I can remember the date. I'd be willing to change my signature, rather grudgingly, I'll admit, but what do you guys think? I guess I could figure it out if I really, REALLY wanted to...obviously part of me doesn't want to. If I change to a February date, I'll be close to 3 months again, and I guess that it won't hurt as much as it would have back in March. I'm open to your thoughts.

TT, I'm glad you felt the support here last night. Even good relationships can be complicated. Sigh...... If I get involved with anyone again, I want someone whose children are ALL. GROWN. UP. :H

Very good points, Cinders. We must respect the feelings of others, even as we want them to respect our feelings. Their behavior is another matter altogether.....verbally abusive behavior is not tolerable.

Verbal abuse can take many subtle forms, as well. It is easy to see name-calling and saying abusive and derogatory things; it is harder to recognize things like stone-walling, topic switching, avoidance, etc., which are other ways to avoid really communicating and making another feel that their feelings are not worthy of discussion.

                Stellar jokes this morning, Mick.

Oh, and Cinders, thanks for sending the rain to us!

Hey PPQP. You're sounding good. Glad you got your coffee.

Well, I'm off to start catching up on casenotes. I also vacuumed out my car this morning and sprayed some Febreze in there. Unfortunately, it was smelling a bit like a barnyard. :H

Hugs to all, and to all that comes!

                :l

                      just kidding.

it says I shall succeed (win).... keep trying.

good to know i can still stick around here. i do not want to be a bad influence though and give anyone bad ideas. it is not okay that i cannot stop this.

Thanks for your support guys. I went back and looked at my calendar since I've tried to quit and I never make it longer than 8 days. Kinda pathetic.
this is so hard. the least stupid thing that upsets me i use as an excuse to drink and believe me sometimes i don't even need an excuse. it's raining - gosh I better drink some wine then, right?
what a moron i can be!

i guess i better buy the L-glut here, the price doesn't matter as i find the American vitamins to be nearly twice the price as in the US anyway.

i have to look at this as a one day at time, i do much better. when i think of not drinking for a month then i think it makes if far more difficult. just for today is gonna be good enough for today.

Oh, and YAH I think you should just leave your signature as it is. You are doing fantastic and should be really pleased with yourself! Me, I gonna just keep tryin' boy.
And, it took me a long time to get where I am with the wine bottle, so WHY am I surprised I can't just stop because I want to?

                              Good evening Abbers,

Had a rough start to my day. Found my nearly 30 yr old Cockatiel dead on the bottom of his cage
I have had a feeling that the end was near for him - not because he was sick or anything but just because he was so old!!! He's been a part of my family for 28 yrs. It's going to be too quiet, something I'll have to adjust to, sadly.

LTLW, drinking AL is a choice, never an accident or necessity. When we really & truly understand that concept then things change. We always have a choice to handle stress in a different way. It takes practice but you can do it ~ I did

kuya, I'll PM you my info but you'd better not tell :H

I did have a geat visit with my daughter & grandaughter, glad they came today.

PQ, the mulch wasn't delivered until dinnertime so the entire pile is sitting on the driveway. I'll take a pic in the morning - it's a lot!!!!

Have a good AF night ine & all.
