    af day Sat 18 May

    MAE absters!
We seem to be turning into a 'blood tribe' - comparing bloods etc.:H Blame me. I swear I am not a vampire.
(we will eventually get your blood PPQP!!!!)
    Instead here's some coffee folks...

Hope you had a terrific birthday Kuya - at least this year you will remember all of it. Any special plans this weekend?

Mick - another op? Oh dear. Good thing its not going to cost and it sounds like you don't have to wait too long. Here in NZ we have a sort of national health but those of us who can afford often pay for private insurance (Its not Shortland Street though Mick!). Thats one reason why I stay with my GP - as she is (despite the margarine thing and she was referring to Proactiv) really great and you can't easily shop around for a GP or medical practice here.

I also remember one of the first things I had drummed into me when I started uni years ago "correlation does not cause cause and effect". As we all know the factors behind causality are very complex and thats one reason why scientists ask for so much research money!!

I will stick to my area - the arts/humanities. I have to get a paper worked on this weekend - it is driving me nuts :nutso:
Daughter also has a history paper to finish - so what a fun- filled house it will be. I haven't asked the cat what his writing project yet:H:H: Maybe its on blood

Hope all others are doing well - a quiet weekend for LTLW maybe?
SL - lots going on there. You stay strong too SF.
    And you too Cinders.
Bear - good strategy on your Friday treats. I think that treats are really important in quitting AL.
Misty, drizzly day here but lots of blue sky. Amazing colours actually.

Hugs to all and don't let the blood drain you too much (sick pun)

Morning TT and greetings FabAbbers near and not so far,

Did have some blood work done start of year and thankfully all is ok. That stuff can be bloody stressful, but important not to avoid it and get it done.

Best of luck Mick, and to Lav if you are awaiting results.

All the best with your study this weekend TT. What are you studying?

Wishing all a safe, sober and magical weekend.

      G bloke.

MAE Abbers......checking in early as have a day with rellies planned.

Our public health system here is not too bad......pay if you can't wait though. Very good with health screening program's and I am lucky to have a very efficient modern centre nearby.

They do kick you out ASAP after surgery, may not be a bad thing though.

Good to see you MR G

          Have a great weekend everybody

Couldn't resist peeking into the future, doesn't look too bad yet. Have to get up early both days this weekend to ferry the girls around to their sports etc - alarm to go off as if it was a week day - :upset::upset:
Good to see you here G - hope the house building is carrying on strong?
Friday evening in reality, so doing my checkin to numb "those" demon whispers....
see you later tomorrow (today.....hopefully not yesterday though...)

Get the mega dose and try to get capsules rather than tablets. B vits are for the liver and also needed in the production of many brain enzymes......these are for long term support so take them religiously.

At nearly nine months sober I still make sure I have these, minerals ( zinc and magnesium) some glutamine and eat well. I can still feel things changing and healing.

                    af day Sat 18 May

                    Hello, AFers,

I am cheating and looking into the Saturday thread early, too. About 10 minutes early, my time.

Hubby's surgery went very well, although he still had infection in there!! After weeks on IV antibiotics. Weird. Well they removed the part of the colon with the infection and cleaned all up so hopefully we are dusted of that. He called and woke me up out of a deep sleep tonight to tell me that his pain was much better.

Now I can't get back to sleep.

Kuya, my psychiatrist told me that true healing in the brain doesn't start until 6-9 months after sobriety begins. It will be interesting to see if you find yourself starting to feel better in leaps and bounds at this point.

Now that surgery is over, I am hoping I can go off and find some sort of employment to help with bills. Meanwhile, I start my new class next week. That is pretty exciting, too.

Glad to see all are doing well yesterday and today.

                    Love,
                    Cindi

Hi SL...how are you today?dont thingsl ook different when you write them down and look at them in an individual way?

here is something for you to read...see if it makes any sense

                        ACCEPT WHAT YOU HAVE
Research shows that happy people have modest levels of expectation and aspirations ? they want what they can get ? while unhappy people never seem to get what they want. They also know how to avoid disappointments and how to generate pleasant surprises. This is because they strive for realistic goals and are happy with their lot. As Dr Jose de Jesus Garcia Vega, of the University of Monterrey, Mexico, confirms, we must accept things as they come.

?We spend a lot of time complaining about the things that happen to us, but this is a waste of time and effort,? he says. ?To be happy, we need to enjoy what we have.?

                        ENJOY WHAT YOU DO
Happy people do what they enjoy and enjoy what they do ? and don?t do it for the money or glory. There?s no point being stuck in a job you hate, surrounded by unfriendly colleagues just because the money is good ? people forget that they are allowed to be happy at work, too. Many spend the best years of their lives trying to make money, sacrificing their health and family in the process, later, they spend the same money they made working trying to recover their lost health and estranged family.

                        LIVE FOR TODAY
Don?t dwell on the past, on things that went wrong or previous failures. Similarly, don?t dream about an idealised future that doesn?t exist or worry about what hasn?t happened yet. Happy people live for the now; they have positive mind sets. If you can?t be happy today, what makes you think tomorrow will be different?

                        CHOOSE HAPPINESS
Don?t be afraid to step back and re-evaluate your goals. Imagine your life as a story that you can edit and revise as you go along. This kind of flexible approach requires positive thinking and an open mind ? you need to actively choose to be happy.

She found that ?voluntarists? (people who feel they have free choice and complete control over their life) were happier than fatalists (people who think little can be changed by personal intervention).
Luckily for us, Northern European countries contain more voluntarists while Latin European countries such as Spain and Italy have a higher percentage of fatalists.

                        RELATIONSHIPS
We get our happiness from other people, and from supporting other people. Remember that just as other people can make us happy, we are all ?other people? to someone else. And cherish people who are important to you. Research also shows that married people are happier than single people.

                        STAY BUSY
If you want to be happier, develop an outgoing, social personality ? accept that drinks invitation, join the walking club, book group or choir. The best way to savour pleasure is in the company of others. Build a rich social life, says Eunkook M. Suh, a psychology professor at Yonsei University in Seoul, not as an obligation, but because it is rewarding, meaningful and fun.

Active, busy, social people are the healthiest and happiest, in society. Get involved: make your motto ?use it or lose it.?

                        DON'T COMPARE
Ambition is healthy and makes people happy, explains Claudia Senik, a professor at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, but envy makes them unhappy. Yet comparisons with others can spoil the benefits of ambition and are only useful if you learn something from them. Focus on your goals and dreams so you can enjoy your ambition and achievements.

                        BE YOURSELF
Just as you shouldn?t compare yourself with others, it?s important not to worry about what others think about you ? then you can truly be yourself.
Happy people are spontaneous, natural and real; they say what they think and feel, and aren?t concerned what others think of them. Being oneself makes one feel free and authentic.

                        STOP WORRYING
Don?t take yourself too seriously. Happy people don?t worry and they recognise that 90 per cent of worries never come true.

                        GET ORGANISED
You might envy those laid-back bohemian types who just do things on the spur of the moment, but don?t be fooled. Happy people plan and organise, they have goals and a purpose. You can only get what you want or desire if you know what it is you want or desire in the first place. So while those chilled-out friends might seem happy, they?re actually just drifting along.

                        THINK POSITIVE
Bottling up emotions and bad feelings creates psychological distress and physical discomfort. Happy people get things off their chest, their motto is: get rid of it, or it will get rid of you. Similarly, work at developing optimistic thinking; happy people always look on the bright side.

Successful athletes know to focus on winning, not losing, explains Miriam Akhtar, one of the first positive psychologists in the UK. We need to switch from a negative, glass-half-empty outlook to a glass-half-full and put optimism into practice to be happiest. Optimism is the mind?s natural self-defence mechanism against depression.

                        VALUE HAPPINESS
Happiness can be learned, but finding meaning and a purpose in life is what leads to it, not the other way around.

Have a great day...remember get some you time as well as being the mum taxi!!!

Morning ltlw ..how are things with you?any plans for the weekend? house hunting still the name of the game? best of luck to you

right folks offski now....have a great day

An Emergency Call Centre worker in London has been dismissed from her job, much to the dismay of colleagues who are reportedly unhappy with her treatment.

It seems a male caller dialled 999 from a mobile phone stating, "I am depressed and lying here on a railway track. I am waiting for the train to come so I can finally meet Allah."

Apparently, "remain calm and stay on the line" was not considered to be an appropriate or correct response ... .

A man was forced to take a day off from work to appear for a minor traffic summons. He grew increasingly restless as he waited hour after endless hour for his case to be heard. When his name was called, late in the afternoon, he stood before the judge, only to hear that court would be adjourned for the rest of the afternoon and he would have to return the next day.

?What for?? he snapped at the judge.

His honor, equally irked by a tedious day and sharp query, roared, ?Twenty dollars contempt of court. That?s why!?

Then, noticing the man checking his wallet, the judge relented. ?That?s all right. You don?t have to pay now.?

The young man replied, ?I?m just seeing if I have enough for two more words.?

Late one night a mugger wearing a ski mask jumps into the path of a well-dressed man and sticks a gun in his ribs. ?Give me your money,? he demands.

Indignant, the affluent man replies, ?You can?t do this?I?m a U.S. congressman!?

?In that case,? replies the robber, ?give me my money!?

Q: Why are old men in nursing homes given Viagra?A: So they don?t roll out of bed.

Jeff and Mike were killed in an accident. Jeff arrives at the Pearly Gates, and is met by St. Peter.

?Where is my friend Mike?? Jeff asks.

St. Peter replies, ?Well, Mike was not as fortunate as you. He went in the other direction instead of getting into Heaven.?

Jeff was bothered by this and asked, ?Well, could I see Mike one more time just to be sure he is OK??

So, Jeff and St. Peter walked over to the edge of Heaven and looked down. There was Mike, on a sandy beach, with a gorgeous sexy blonde in a bikini, and a keg of beer.

?I don?t mean to complain, but Mike seems to have it pretty nice down there in Hell,? says Jeff.

?It?s not as it appears to be,? says St. Peter. ?You see, the keg has a hole in it and the blonde doesn?t.?

Q: Why do birds fly south for the winter?A: 'Cause it's too far to walk.

Detroit Lions coach Bobby Ross is looking for a new quarterback. But after scouting all the colleges, he hasn?t found his man. Then one night he sees a news clip of a Bosnian soldier hurling grenades through 15-story windows from 200 yards away. That guy?s got an amazing arm, Ross says to himself. We?ve got to give him a tryout.

So the coach brings him to America, and a year later, with their new Bosnian quarterback, the Lions win their first Super Bowl. After the game the quarterback telephones his mother. ?Mom,? he yells, ?we won the Super Bowl! I?m famous and rich!?

?I don?t want to talk to you,? his mother says.

?But, Mom,? the star player pleads,?I just won the Super Bowl!?

?I don?t care,? she answers. ?At this moment there are gunshots all around. The neighborhood is a pile of rubble. Your two brothers were beaten within an inch of their lives last week.? She pauses, then tearfully says, ?I?ll never forgive you for bringing us to Detroit.?

Right lets see if we can start summat with this one !!!!! :H:H

Ways to Annoy A Yankee (Northerner)

Take your own sweet time when doing ANYTHING.
Pronounce all one-syllable words with two.
When giving directions, finish with ?and it?s right down yonder on the left.? Confuses the mess out of ?em.
Talk REAL slow, and ask them to speak more slowly so you can understand what they?re saying.
Refer to every soft drink as a Coke.
Always order sweet tea and/or grits. When they don?t have it, raise a ruckus.
Insist on being addressed by your first AND middle names. (e.g. Lisa Marie -- John Michael -- Jim Bob. . .you get the idea)
Address all males as ?son? and females as ?little lady?.
Correct their pronunciation of certain words. For example: It?s ?Pah-kahn? not ?Pee-can?.
                        Put Tabasco on everything.
For New York Yankees: Act as if the whole state of New York is New York City. In other words, if they say ?Yo, I?m from upstate New Yoik!?, say ?Well, I?ll be damned, my wife has always wanted to see a Broadway show!?
?Mash? buttons. ?Cut? off lights. ?Carry? the kids to school.
Never simply ?do? something. Be ?fixin to do? something.
Call ?em a yankee. Works every time.
When they talk nostalgically about the North, tell 'em "Delta's ready when you are!"
Talk loudly and often about SEC football or ACC basketball.
Offer to send 'em a bottle of fresh air.
Frequently bring up "The War of Northern Aggression" in conversation. If anyone ever says the words "Civil War", always interject that "there was nothing civil about it."
When invited to dinner, offer to bring dessert. Show up with a box of Moon Pies. . .preferably the banana ones.
Name all of your children "Bubba". (or just call em that!)
Use the word "reckon" in a sentence and watch their reaction.
"Mash" buttons. "Cut" off lights. "Carry" the kids to school.
Tell them you don't have an accent, they do.
Be sure to include "yes/no ma'am/sir" in all conversations.
Only use landmarks and ramble on when giving directions. "Now go down Jeff Davis Highway and turn left at where the Chevron station used to be. I think they turned it into a Amoco. Or maybe a BP. Anyway, turn right there..." "You said left."
"Did I? Well, turn left there and follow it until you see a big fish on your left. I remember when that fish used to be on the other side of town.."
Ask them if it's still snowing up North. Then tell 'em you went driving around in your convertible this weekend.
af since the fourth of July 2012...howzat then America..now proudly marching into year 12

                          af day Sat 18 May

morning all - wow - you're all up early. I've been up for an hour, let kitties out and cleaned up poop (story of my life!) and put a load of washing on,pots in to soak. Typing in bed with a coffee(half caff, half decaff - I've been a bit over caffeinated recently!).

B vits - good for energy and depression as well - Patrick Holford website I find very helpful - you can look up what the issue is and what vits he recommends. his books are quite cheap too on amazon, i bought for kindle - i read ' how to quit without feeling s**t'.We'll see how I go.

Hi Mick - what is wrong with your arm, I just realised I don't know. Hope it gets sorted soon whatever it is.

Today is watching 'saturday kitchen' - then bit of tidying round house, then cycling into town to buy new Primani work bag (and maybe some tights),few toiletries, birthday and leaving cards and then I'm buying lunch for my friend who is leaving the UK soon. After that I'm getting my eyebrows, lip and chin threaded - OW!!Then we're off for her leaving drinks - I am driving - not a very boozy do as she's not a big drinker so I feel safe.

It's day 7 and feeling better - last night was overwhelmed with anxiety, anger and jealousy - not pretty. I let myself feel this then took some 5htp and went to bed early with jason vale book.Usually I squash that sort of thinking/emotion with booze - going to let myself just go through it - feel it then try to work out what it is telling me.

Good day all of you,may pop in later,
                          one day at a time

Went to pick up some dry cleaning, and they said i had already picked it up, I did ask if they were sure and didn't push too much beacause....well, you know..they stood a fair chance of being right, my mind is a sieve! Got a call when I got home to say they had found it - phew - I know I am forgetful, but I was pretty sure that I hadn't been back to the shop
OK - better go get my food before I confuse the hunger with cravings - tata, chat laters...
