Need Some Feedback/Help - Something is making me loopy

I've been on the program over a month and things were going pretty well. I was finally having AF days. But I noticed that my mind was starting to get fuzzy. It seemed like I would be disoriented after doing the hypnotherapy CDs. I was following the routine in the book exactly.

It also seemed like the GABA was making me foggy and slow. I know for sure it was because when I first started taking it I was taking 3 a day and you're only supposed to take one! I was completely out of it at school and couldn't get my brain and fingers to work in harmony (I am studying court reporting). I cut back to one and still not helpful, so I stopped it. Everything else seemed basically fine, except for a little fuzzy after the CDs. I even cut out the 5-HTP just to be sure that wasn't contributing to my fuzziness. I am down to only Lithium Oratate and a good diet keeping my from sinking into a chronic depressive state.

Then I decided to go on Topamax, and it's been down hill ever since. It majorly affected my mood, extreme depression. I was so foggy that, after 4 days, I stopped taking it. It's been over a week since I stopped, and I am still struggling with the blues and feeling like my head is detached from my body. I stopped taking almost all my supplements, basically anything which I had started recently: glutamine, B-complex, Kudzu, B-3 (Niacin), Cal/Mag, in sheer desperation to get the fog lifted. Also stopped the hypno CDs.

UNFORTUNATELY, I have now had two days in a row of 1 bottle an evening drinking and I am beyond pissed off/frustrated. I am genuinely concerned that MWOT program isn't going to work for me. I have a day off from school today and got back on track with everything except the GABA of course. Did 1 hypno CD, feeling a little fuzzy but maybe that's from the wine.

I just am not sure what to do next. Is it still the TOPA getting out of my system? Is there something I can take to help with that Detox? The CDs have been miraculous for me, and if I weren't needing to focus on this incredibly challenging audio/kinesthetic/cerebral challenge of learning electronic stenographic language, I probably could skate through. But I HAVE GOT TO BE MORE CLEAR MINDED; this is my future livelihood.

I'm just not sure what my next step should be. Wait it out and get back on the hypno and supplement program in the hopes my mental alertness will return?

I'm sorry it's so difficult for you right now.

I'm not on all the stuff you are on but my meds are making it awfully hard to think straight sometimes. If I was trying to study something or take a class, I'd probably be dead in the water.

I don't know if this is helpful, and I apologize in advance if it offends you or makes you unhappy. You seem to be in a rather dire "now or never" mindset. That can't be helping you on any level. Also, maybe it is not an accurate perception of reality? I think, from what little bit I know from what you have said here, that those kinds of thoughts are probably your worst enemy right now. I struggle with those demons too.

    I wish I had a solution. I would use it too! :l

Anchorite, wish I had some advice, but I don't take any meds so I am not much good in that arena. I'm sure some others will come along and post some advice if you can hang in there.:l

Hey Crunchy, it takes a lot to offend me, so don't worry. But I don't really understand your comment about "now or never" and I would like to. What specifically are you referring to? What I'm feeling right now is more at a loss as to what to do next, and perhaps that's what you are speaking to? Also, I do have a bit of a time pressure because I can't keep missing school or not passing my timed writes; that's just a fact. I'm hoping someone has had similar experiences with either Topa or the CDs and has some recommendations. I read somewhere that an amino-acid supplement can flush Topa from your system but don't know about that. THANK YOU for taking the time to respond, I hope one day I can be helping someone on this forum.

anchorite, I'm sorry that I cannot be more helpful. I was hoping that the urgency you felt was not as urgent as might think.

You might want to try the holistic healing forum. People there know about natural ways to help with detoxing chemicals, enhancing clarity and that sort of thing:

Holistic Healing - My Way Out Forums

You also might try the meds forum but some regulars there have a kind of "gangsta" mentality going on right now:

Topamax, Campral, Naltrexone, Baclofen, other meds - My Way Out Forums

I hope you get it all sorted out.

Anchorite, you might want to PM Ringing Cedars. I think she might be able to help. If I remember correctly, I think I've seen her post about Topa - not 100% sure, but give it a try. Or post again and make your heading specific about Topa or some of the other meds.

Anchorite, some of what you are describing sounds like it could be related to post acute withdrawal syndrome. I'm not a doctor of course - this is just what came to mind. Here is a link to some information but there is lots on the net if you google it. The Symptoms of Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome | Recovery First

Please reach out for professional help if you need it OK? It's very hard to get sober (it was for me anyway) but it's really, really been worth it. So I hope you find your way out too.

Holy crap, I followed your link and that sounds like me! I didn't think my level of drinking could cause any extreme withdrawal symptoms, but I guess I was wrong. Maybe because I've been doing so many things to cleanse my system, it just has all come together. I felt like exercising after this post, so did a Zumba cd, and I did feel a bit clearer. It's one of the things they recommend. This makes me feel a LOT better, thank you!!

I went through some really uncomfortable things too. As one example, I would start to say something and the words would sometimes mix up on me. That went on for probably 3 months or so IIRC.

I really really really do think the exercise and diet recommendations in the book are very helpful.

I didn't start taking GABA right away - probably added it after a month. HOLY COW did that stuff make me feel good! I must have been really depleted because I long ago stopped getting any sort of noticeable mood lift from any of the supps. It was sorta fun while it lasted though. :H

If you are ever real concered about your symptoms, don't be afraid to go see a doctor. Alcohol can kill. I found it surprising that heroin withdrawal will not kill a person, but AL withdrawal will. So this stuff is serious.

The good news is that things will not stay uncomfortable forever. The only way out of the mess (for most of us) however, is to stop drinking. I think the worst thing we can do is drink for awhile, stop for a short time, start, stop, start, stop... IMO that pattern just keeps us in misery. Better to tough it out and get over to the good side of recovery.

Hi Ladies---Sounds like you're getting on track again Anchor. I have not taken Topa or any other anti craving medication. I would continue to detox your liver with NAC, milk thistle and lemon water. As DG said if you don't continue to improve, you might want to see a doctor--hopefully a naturopathic one. CoEnzyme Q 10, ginkgo might perk your brain up a bit too. Hope that helps.
