Re: Army garrison - February 2021

Sounds like a trapped nerve JC. I had one once, not nice. 3st??? that was a lot of choc Sugar addiction is a real thing I think. The only way to treat is the same as AL. Avoid it. There have been studies that show sugar is as addictive as hard drugs like coke and heroin. Different results obv but same principles after you let it in. For some folk anyway

Yes where are the doctors? Richs aunt only went to a&e because she had fallen over. She had felt rubbish since Christmas but couldnt get a face to face appt. It was only because she went to A and E with a hurt wrist and that she told them her chest was bad and they xrayed it then admitted her.

Yeah I know Rustop but I was feeling I REALLY had no words at all. Started sentences, couldnt finish. Will do better. Enjoy your walks the weather here is gorgeous. Proper spring like

Hey, Satz, I have been such an MWO-slacker, I was shocked to see a mention! So I hurried over here to see what is going on .

The simplest explanation is that most addictions (at least substance ones - I'm not sure about activities such as gambling, porn, etc.) involve the same brain circuits. And our brains like to get hits! People who are low in the "pleasure chemicals" especially like to get them triggered. Using myself as an example, I used to love readily absorbed carbs such as cookies and bread. I remember overeating them to the point of misery and feeling unable to stop. So, I tried not to eat them at all because that off-switch was clearly broken. But, sometimes I caved in and binged. The whole experience over the years completely mirrored what happened with alcohol later. Because I didn't drink until I was in my 30s, I struggled with carbs instead for most of my life. When diabetes was looming, I gave up sugar and simple carbs. And guess what??? My drinking addiction got MUCH worse. So, I had the reverse experience to what many former addicts describe. Now, life is much richer and peaceful with none of it my life and no cravings.

I hope everyone who is facing or has family facing health crises is ok. I think of all of you in the Army often. xx, NS

Hey @NoSugar - we're always here talking about something please drop in more.
We SHOULD be talking about alcohol on here I know but life gets in the way.
But it was such a huge part of our lives for so long - we usually get back to it eventually.

So NS if sugar & Alcohol are gone how do you get the "pleasure chemicals" triggered. I presume it Serotonin & Dopamine we are talking about. Exercise is one way I know... a walk will have you buzzing when you get back...
I remember about 4 years ago I cried in the doctor's office - because YS was in a really bad place & my job had become so difficult - first time ever in my life .
She put me on SSRIs - which increase Serotonin. They worked.

Oh shit - is he still feeling bad ?
It's a strange one isn't it Molls. That they can't pinpoint it. Is it resistant to antibiotics ?
I think with much more movement of people these days from country to country - different bacteria are introduced that native Irish haven't met before. (& visa versa of course)
That is what doctors told my SIL when she got sick with something they'd never seen before - they asked if she'd been to Africa. No - but she was a dental nurse - daily looking into people's gobs.

I'm not being racist - or any of that shite - just stating a fact. I suppose it'll take many generations for integration and a reboot of our immune systems.

Does that make sense ...... I may be delirious with tiredness

Re: Army garrison - February 2021

Very likely @satz123, its the natural course of things I suppose. (BTW, never to late to start running. 2 in my fit4life group were over 60. But a good walk is brilliant, as long as we keep moving I think).

Molly, Im really sorry to hear that. Has he improved at all? I know how ill a tiny infection can make you, if you cant find the root of it. My friend who is quadriplegic, had awful issues, but they found it eventually, in a tiny bed sore.

IF you just need an '@' to come over here @NoSugar, we can do that everyday! Great explanation, thanks for that.

Brilliant news on the jab @JackieClaire! they are not hanging about. MArch 10th is less that 2 weeks away!!

Sun came out today, it felt positive and spring like. I even turned off the radio. Im not sure if others listen to the radio as much as we do over here - RTE1 or newstalk is usually muttering in the background.
