    Hi, All:

I made soup for the week also, Lav. A delicious, spicy, lemony red lentil soup. Delish.

I did get out to the coast for a long walk on the beach. Just what the doctor ordered.

    Re: Newbies Nest

Narilly, when I was in dental hygiene school, we watched a film called, “If Saliva Were Red”. It was a graphic movie about how easily germs are spread though our touch and breathing. 40 years later, I remember that movie. It should be required watching for all our school-aged folk!

A gall bladder attack, yikes. Don’t tell me the symptoms or a I’ll get them! Wishing you well, Kensho. You have such an adventurous spirit. Do you know how much I’d be complaining in a tent with sleet? Bahaha! I thought about you when that Boing 777’s engine fell apart, I hope that wasn’t near you. That must have been absolute terror for those passengers. I don’t know how they boarded another flight after that, but I guess there’s no driving to Hawaii. That would have grounded me but good. Yikes. I’m a nervous flyer as it is.

I woke up in the middle of the night and was thinking about a food show I’d just watched. Wine was flowing. For a minute, I felt resentful and angry that I couldn't do that. Then my mind focused on what the show was actually about...the food of Italy. It’s easy to focus on the negative, the key to this, and so many other things, is to focus on all that you CAN have, and how blessed we are for that. I need to practice gratitude (Lav-I-Tude) each and every day.

Still raining here. We are considering assembling paired animals and hyjacking a big boat. Thoughts?
Hope everyone has a happy Monday! Hugs to all, Byrdie

    Happy Un Hung Monday everyone.

Lav, your cooking makes me hungry. Vegetable chowder sounds delicious.

Ken, that Chinese medicine is interesting. I think we can incorporate eastern and western medicine to help us with our health. I have gone to get acupuncture many times and it has really helped me and my 'pain in the neck'.

Pav, walking on the beach, that is how I picture you

Hey Byrdie, float by me and pick me up. I will bring the two weiner dogs, lol.

Well, I am going to do some cooking for my MIL and family today. Probably making hamburger patties and pumkin sausage stew which is a good cold winter dish.

It is warming up today, sunny and 6C. OH YEAH!!

    Talk later.

    Re: Newbies Nest

    Good evening Nesters,

No cooking for me today. I just pulled leftovers out of the fridge & put them on a salad, haha!!
We got another 4” of unwanted snow today BUT it’s supposed to warm up to the 50’s in a day or two so it should melt. I am ready for spring & some color outside.

Pav, Yay soup!!! It’s nourishing & you really don’t have to spend hours over a hot stove. Cooking for two here means I always have leftovers, haha. The beach walk sounds real nice.

Byrdie, I also remember those gag worthy films from my nursing & microbiology classes, haha. They made such an impression, didn’t they? I think jr high kids should be shown these films, teach them early.
You do know that if you skip the wine you can enjoy an extra large serving of pasta! I think of things that way to keep my gratitude going

Narilly, nice of you to cook for your MIL. I don’t think I’ve ever had pumpkin sausage - is that a thing? Or is it pumpkin & sausage stew? Sounds good either way. Enjoy your warm up.

Hello to the rest of the nest & wishing a safe night for all.

    Hi, All:

Science teachers have this stuff called "glow germ" or something where they put it on kids hands (invisible) and then they wash their hands. You put a black light on the hands and show them where they missed. There's also a lab on epidemics where one person has "germs" in a cup and they encounter four different people - shows exponential spread of disease. I might recommend the red saliva!

Everyone around me has sort of hit their limit this week - a lot of people are down and not feeling well, sad, depressed. We're all just trying to get through I guess. The year anniversary of this is coming up, so maybe that is it as well. As well as the grim milestone of 500,000 dead. How are people doing where you are?

Last February I ended up with three local "trips." I thought it was impossible - but now what I wouldn't give to have that! There has been some movement on the vaccine so that is hopeful.

Wow. Sorry to be such a downer. I am grateful to be sober through this (with you all), grateful for my dogs, and grateful for nice places to hike and get outside.

    Happy SOBER Tuesday.

    Re: Newbies Nest

    morning nesters,

quick check in, never seems to be enough hours in the day now i have a fancy title. should have realised i would get more work also.
starting to cool down in the mornings now, even had to find my slippers and dressing gown. Its been a funny summer.
Kensho i had a gall bladder attack years and years ago and it was awful. i think now i am the healthiest i have ever been. I think getting older does that. I am doing keto atm and the cream upsets my gut but otherwise am loving it and even cooking as for some reason i have a real sweet tooth!
Nar, wow 154 days in 2014, how time flies. i remember thinking i was going to drink on my 50th birthday in the April and i didnt thankfully. Anyone can stop drinking if they have the right tools and support. God if we all can, anyone can. One day at a time.
Going to see my son this weekend. we had a snap 5 day lockdown to stop the cases that were starting and that seemed to do the trick.
my niece had her baby the other day, 10 weeks premmie but came out crying and 1.26kgs. a long way to go but fingers crossed. now i am a great aunty and going to be a nana, 2021 is going to be such a good year. Will go and visit the new family when bubs comes home from hospital. talked to my daughter and we will drive just in case any borders are closed and we cant get home. might even talke my mum if she behaves though she seems to have gotten over her latest behaviour at the moment.
The vaccine came out here on Monday, not sure when i will get it but think i am Category 2.
I've started op shopping for baby clothes, told my son i will just put everything in storage containers, he is shaking his head at me but i am sooooooo excited
We had so many months in lockdown last year that i think everyone is wary about any cases that we have now. still mask wearing and social distancing and i cant see myself going back to work full time at all. i am trying to go into our sister hospital on a Tuesday and am quite liking the socialising aspect, not liking the peak hour traffic aspect.
started using my skin cancer cream to get rid of some sunspots last night, should be looking real pretty in a few days.

    take care xx

    Re: Newbies Nest

Pav, I appreciate your giving voice to what I’ve been feeling the last few days. It’s as if I’ve hit a wall. I have a lot of big emotions: sadness at the 500,000 that have lost their lives to Covid, anger at people who still refuse to wear masks, jealousy of folks who have been vaccinated and worry that I haven’t been to my doctors in over a year. I feel a sense of anxiety over the new strains coming and that I’ll be vaccinated in time. Im frustrated with anti-science people. I spoke to a former coworker yesterday who is eligible for the vaccine but refuses to get it. He says a former high school classmate shared compelling reasons why not to get it. I asked if his classmate was an epidemiologist, no, but “He knows about these things”. I’m frustrated at the amount of disinformation that is being bought and sold. This whole year has been like a bad dream.
It is so reassuring to know I’m not alone in these feelings. So many things are out of my control, but one thing I can control is my sobriety. I am so grateful that I have that in my corner. I’m proud of what we do here in the nest. Maybe we should be put in charge of Covid vaccines!
    Finally some sunshine!
Thank you for listening to my rant. So grateful for this nest! Hugs to all, Byrdie

    Re: Newbies Nest

    Greetings Nesters,

I was so out of sorts today & not feeling like doing anything I went on my husband’s afternoon pick up & delivery of Amish built greenhouse tables, Lol. A guy in our county builds the tables & a guy in the neighboring county builds the greenhouses/ They can’t transport that stuff so they pay ‘English’ drivers & everyone is happy. It was boring & nice at the same time sitting in the truck for 2 1/2 hours. I came back with my mood lifted, thank goodness. Yes, we’re all feeling a year of pandemic & heartache over 500,000+ deaths. I’d be more than happy to vaccinate the entire nest if I could get my hands on the vaccine, no kidding!

Hello to Pav, Ava & Byrdie. We are indeed fortunate to have mutual support here, not sure where we would be without it honestly.

Wishing everyone a safe night in the nest!

    Re: Newbies Nest

    Hi, All:

Well, a crazy drinking dream the night before last. It is so great that when I have them, much of the time I am trying to sort out how I will message it here. This time it was "well I am only drinking from time to time. Surely they'll understand that!" Well, I know you'd have me back, but I am sure you wouldn't let me get away with that talking. Thank goodness.

Lav that sounds like a great, symbiotic relationship you have going there. Nice to get out and about.

Currently my stress is in my neck. I can't really move it. Anyone have a remedy they love? So far hot shower, self massage, Yoga for the neck and advil.

    Happy SOBER Wednesday.

    Re: Newbies Nest

HI Everyone. Me too... feeling blah, burned out, a bit depressed, and still in abdominal pain. It's exhausting. I emailed the Dr. today. I'd like to feel better.

Byrdie, can you be quicker in line for a vaccine due to your autoimmune condition? They ask here, and it bumps your status.

Ava, I tried to do more keto recently, and I think that's what triggered my pain. UG. Congrats on your soon to be grandchild! Do you know the sex?

SO. The masks. Someone on the radio yesterday was rambling about micro-something size openings and virus size, and the point is that viruses don't just fly through the air by themselves. They travel through mist, and exhaled/sneezed aerosols. These particles, that hold the viruses and allow them to travel, are larger than the holes in most masks. Man, it's almost evil - the desire to poison people's minds with lies. Just tell the truth. Period.

Best get to work. Have a good day Nest.
