    Re: Newbies Nest

    Happy Un Hung Monday everyone.

Wags, so glad to see you back. It is such a hard time but you will get through this, even though it really sucks right now.

Most people wear masks here but we do have some anti maskers. It is interesting but if you read up on the 1918 Spanish Flu, there were anti maskers back then too. I guess some people just don't like being told what to do or they are just dumb.

It is starting to warm up here, oh yeah! Its all uphill from here. I will be walking my dogs today for sure, just like you Ken.

Sourdough doughnuts? YUM!! Don't do this to me Lav.

Have a good one everybody and don't drink today.

    Re: Newbies Nest

    Greetings Nesters,

A day without rain ~ nice! It’s windy & the temps are dropping so welcome March
Had to go to the grocery store today for necessities but that was about all I accomplished, haha! I got the news today that one of my former co-workers, a girl I’ve known since high school died last week of renal & liver failure. Sad, she was a nice person but also a chronically depressed person. I had heard she did a few stints in rehab but the alcohol won in the end
Drinking to relieve depression never works, I know from experience. I just wish she could have taken a different path like we did here. Save your quits, they are precious.

Pav, my chicken spent the day running around in their fenced yard, very happy with very muddy feet haha!

Narilly, I put half of the donuts in the freezer right away, they are too much of a temptation. We both like them plain, no icing or topping of any kind so I figure we’re saving at least a few calories, maybe!!!
    Enjoy your warming weather

Hello to all & wishing everyone a safe night in the nest!

    Re: Newbies Nest

    Hi, All:

Sorry about your friend, Lav. The addiction won I guess. So sad.

I was listening to a podcast by two guys who are recovering addicts I found through Kirsten Johnson who wrote Guts. KJ's sister died of addiction and she was a guest on their podcast. One of them relapsed and died suddenly - so sad. They think he accidentally got something with fentanyl in it. A colleague's niece and nephew just died of fentanyl - they each bought one Percocet to help them relax because of the pandemic and it was laced with fentanyl. And another friend's 16 year old niece died like that. Those deaths were more from stupid teen decisions than addiction but are so scary especially now when these kids are depressed and looking to shake themselves a little loose.

The local high schools are opening partially today. I have a lot of friends who are teachers and they are both excited and scared. I am so excited for the kids - they really need it. And at least around here we have a lot of safety precautions, so there is little evidence of in-school transmission. We'll see what happens.

Lav, I want a sourdough donut. How is an un-sweetened, un-topped donut different than a roll or bread? Because it is fried??

Glad it is warming up Nar. We need rain here! send it our way everyone.

    Happy SOBER Tuesday.
    Pav

    Re: Newbies Nest

    Hello all,

Still chilly but spring is on the way soon enough

Pav, I can’t even imagine how a Percocet got mixed up with fentanyl, that’s crazy & something that must have been done in a back room somewhere. Sad that it got into the hands of kids
When I make donuts they are baked only, I don’t fry anything. The sourdough batter is low sugar, the flavoring comes from the starter & the addition of cinnamon & nutmeg, yum.
One of my grandkids is back in school full time, another is back 2 days/week & the third is doing all virtual. I hope all the kids & teachers stay safe.

Hello to everyone 7 wishing a safe night in the nest for all!

    Re: Newbies Nest

    Hi, Lav:

Fake Percocet apparently because Fentanyl is cheaper. They sometimes put too much which is apparently very easy. Yum to the doughnuts!

The nest is quiet. I hope everyone has sober supports to make sure we stay the course. I have read A LOT about relapse in order to avoid it, and one clear issue is the lack of a sober community or sober support. Remember to tend to your quits even when you're feeling good.

    Happy SOBER Wednesday,
    Pav

    Re: Newbies Nest

That’s good advice, Pav. I like to think that everyone who has flown the nest is off living their best sober lives but I kind of doubt it. It is nice knowing that those of us who have stuck around are doing fine as far as alcohol is concerned and have a ready source of support should we need it.

    Re: Newbies Nest

    Hey, nesters!
I had a crazy drinking dream last night. I have not had one drop of AL since my quit date but in the dream, I was using that to apply only to weekdays. On the weekends, I was drinking with impunity and hanging my hat on the ‘Not one drop’ catch phrase. My next crazy thought was....”See, I AM controlling it!” I must not be so bad after all. Then it occurred to me that I had NOT been AF for 10 years and I had such a sense of loss and betrayal. It was awful. So glad that was a dream. They serve a very good purpose. Yikes, I never want to feel like that. No drink is worth giving up all that I have now.

Finally getting some sun! Nice to see it!
I got into sorting my beads yesterday as I was reworking a necklace of mine and 4 hours later, I quit. There is no end to sorting beads.
Hope everyone has a happy hump day! Byrdie

    Re: Newbies Nest

    Good evening Nesters,

It warmed up to 50 something this afternoon, nice. I know we’re not done with the cold weather yet but soon, I just have to be patient.

Pav, I’m glad to be here & if anyone wants/needs to contact me they are welcome to do so
I really don’t share any thoughts or opinions with family, they don’t understand. I feel fortunate to have had this site & all the wonderful people I’ve met over the past 12 years. That’s good enough for me.

NS are you still busy preparing for your new pup? How exciting!
We do have a nice group here, I am grateful.

Byrdie, oh those dreams. They do serve a purpose & I guess we should be grateful for them haha!!
Don’t drive yourself nuts sorting beads, I wouldn’t have much patience for that activity either. Hope you are enjoying your gift of sunshine

    Re: Newbies Nest

Sunny and almost 60 today with no wind. We hiked around a nature preserve. Other than a 3-y old temper tantrum, it was heavenly. Actually, after this week, a puppy might seem pretty easy !

    evening nesters

have a bit of time to check in, seems all i manage at the moment is to work. think my iron is low again as i am super tired. go for a nap and wake up 2+ hours later and drag myself out of bed in the morning, that is so unlike me. i am a 5am person and lets get on with the day. back for a blood test end of this month.

My sons partner had a miscarriage which is sad but they will try again which is good. i am still buying baby clothes and some patients of mine who i have known for years bought me down a crochet blanket and jumper. so sweet of them. this is what makes my job doable. i went to mums for lunch the other day and we had a lovely time.

Nar we get patients who come into the hospital who think it is their right to not wear masks. it surely is but you wont be seen and then they get angry. FFS some people are dumb.

i went to the dentist today to get my quote to get my teeth done under GA and they gave me the wrong day, most apologetic. i didnt mind but i am sure if i turned up on the wrong day they would not be so accommodating. at least this consult is not costing me anything except maybe heart failure.

nice to see you back Wags, i hope 2021 gets better for you.

Pav, i agree, i think we all need to be accountable to someone to keep sober. i have a great support network that keeps me sane and sober. a friend of my sons is going into rehab for heroin addiction plus pills and i told him to find an online support group. Addiction is addiction whatever it is.

Lav sorry to hear about your friend and al. i still get angry at my brother for dying from al but i suppose the support was not really around then and at the end of the day he made his choice, i just hate how it destroys the ones you love but i am so grateful that i stopped when i did.

well time for dinner. prawns tonight. i made a keto lemon slice and now i have to wait till it cools down. yeah right.

    take care xx
