I had a few encounters with alcohol today. I went down to this pond to fish so I grabbed a beer. I then decided I really didnt want it and gave it to my brother in law. A few hours later, I came back to rest and did have a few beers with my brother in law. That was fun. No craving after. Tonight at the end of all the family stuff, I had half a Bloody Mary and poured the rest out. It was very very very good, but I just kind of had my fill of it and I was done. I'm done for the night too. We r all watchin family guy. It's going to be a while before I get used to this and I pray it continues.

Poor decision making has been my downfall several times as well. It's one of the reasons I want to try something different. I'm quite able to overcome indifference when I set my mind to it, which is a bummer. Definitely going to look into gabapentin, thanks for the thread JD.

JD -What do you mean by getting use to ... to what? Just trying to understand, not pry.

Hi Bleep -From what I have read, Gabapentin may be more stable and consistent than baclofen --- and accepted by many more doctors as a recovery tool. New director at NIAAA lead the recent research using gabapentin.

Thanks spirit... I'd like nobody to misinterpret my interest in other methods. Baclofen changed my life immeasurably for the better, and allowed me to get a taste of what a world without alcohol was like. It has made me realise that not only is that a tolerable existence, but a desirable one. The quest on that front will continue.

And in what could be an amusing or devastatingly Monty pythonish moment, depending on your point of view, how's this for a mind fuck... As I said in other posts, the reason I am looking further than baclofen is that the potential for fuck ups still exists. This never happened in the early days, but since I recently titrated up again, it appears to be there... I thought I had just gotten used to it, or something, and what JD said in his post above really resonated - that I have such poor judgement, and actually desire to get pissed, so much so that I thought I was overcoming baclofen.

I get my baclofen mixed for me at a pharmacy. In the early days they expressed amazement at the dose I was taking, but I thought they had gotten over that. Anyway, today i had a look at the label that they put on the bottle, for the first time. It says baclofen 5 mg/ml. It is supposed to say 50. So now I wonder, am I on a tenth of the dose that I think I'm on? A part of me says it's a typo, there is no way I could be, I would have noticed the difference, but another part of me hopes this is the case. It gives me a very easy out, and a very easy solution. It is possible...

I titrated up on a bottle of Lo0p's baclofen, which was definitely at the correct dose. After that I moved to the pharmacy brew that I get done locally, and if at that point the dose was massively reduced, I could easily have tolerated the decrease. Anyway, it's conjecture for now. I'm "overdosing" tonight to see if the bottle I have is really under powered, and will speak to the pharmacy tomorrow to verify, but it's an interesting conundrum.

Man, I'd like to live in a country where this sort of shit doesn't happen!

I'll let you know tomorrow what the results are. I suspect that I am clutching at straws, but we will see. Either way, gabapentin remains a promising option.

I'm thinking about trying gabapentin regularly just for shits n' giggles since I have so much of it. It really doesn't seem to do *anything* for me, but who knows. I'm not drinking and don't really want to right now, so maybe it'll help with some of the residual anxiety from that?

Let's all take some! Kidding. It is pretty promising stuff and I'm really hoping that there will be some long term success stories. JD- you are kind of at the tip of the spear and I am enjoying your thread... Jesus loves alcoholics

Okay, definitely not 5 mg. feeling somewhat weird here. Need to start treating this stuff with more respect it would seem. Perhaps it's not 50, but it's certainly not 5.

Wowsers, I had completely forgotten what his feels like. Twitching insomnia. It's passing now thankfully.

Definitely a call to the pharmacy is in order.

Bleep -I guess I over react to good news sometimes (hell, I over react to everything), but when the new director of National Institute of Health -Alcoholism was the person in charge of the gabapentin program at the Scripps Institute, I have cause to become more hopeful than ever for the plight of alcoholics all around the globe. Just a thought.
