Slept a lot better and had great spurts of being active initially. Not a social person, always drink at home alone.

One nurse (although a brief consultation) believes I am a habitual drinker and not addictive? Too much to go into this theory, but got me thinking as I have never experienced severe side effects whilst de-toxing in the past.

      Hi There,

I would expect that to prescribe you with Baclofen at a fairly substantial dosage the prescribers would (I assume) have some understanding of how Baclofen works, the responsibilities of the prescription and also the need to titrate to a high dose to effect the programme successfully? I think it is important to understand WHY they have prescribed this for you - If it is because you asked for it and they said "OK", then this is one thing - To have prescribed 90mg oral Baclofen daily it sounds to me like they have some idea of the method and structure of the program

Has the provider mentioned that they may not want to increase your prescription further than 90mg oral Baclofen daily? You may or may not be aware that in France, prescribers are likely (or are i am not sure it is very up in the air at the mo) to have to restrict the maximum dosage to 100mg oral Baclofen daily

Are you able to stop drinking ? No, I expect - Therefore as far as I am concerned you are drinking against your will, therefore it is an addiction - If you need more and more of something to achieve the same result (buzz) you are an addict - Whatever!

      So, to answer your question - It is my opinion it is most important to know your subject;

What is Baclofen and how does it work in alcohol addiction.

      Baclofen Titration Schedule.

Understand about the dangers of Baclofen through accidental misuse. Using the links at the top of this page you can familiarise yourself with trials and documents supporting high dose Baclofen.

If you would like a copy of the original email I sent my GP, send me an email @ baclofenmanuk@gmail.com

If I was in your shoes and wanted to continue with a Baclofen program? - i would certainly tickle their ego's a fraction, along the lines of

"As you know I have been taking Baclofen for 2 or three months and this I am finding is certainly helping me as I am findings my cravings waning slightly. The Baclofen program requires a titration. I feel I am ready to go to the next stage as although i have had some of the typical side effects, I have managed these well so i would like you to support me further to a level of (say) 180mg oral Baclofen daily which I have read and had personal anecdotal reports I would expect to see some further improving results" - etc.

      Or the like.....

Re Tapering - My GP is unaware I have tapered down - She will prescribe as long as I ask her to as the results are testament to her convictions. The simple reason I have not told her is because I do not want the discussion with her that I should swap Baclofen for an anti depressant for my anxiety which she has alluded to before

      Regards,

      Bacman

The results to the patient following abuse are severe - For her to risk her reputation on an off label "cure", with the fuddy duddys of the GMC waiting to "bust her balls", is not a risk I would want her to take, on my say so - FWIW, I do think about this a lot....
I hope your GP is still willing to accept your medical advice. If so please pass on this

I rather wish she would not!

I have emailed this to her in the hope she may ignore my reservations and get prescribing - Maybe with all this information on one page (so to speak) she may be able to select suitable patients
