12 March
Good early morning! I thought I managed to sleep until 6am, but I failed to factor in the time change!
Went to bed super early again, as I was feeling my lymph nodes swelling again and feeling my temp rising a bit; and feel refreshed today.
I’m an ok caregiver, TG, but not great. I need a lot of my own time to myself to balance out any care-giving. And I don’t tend to go the extra mile. Now you: you’re a great caregiver!
PQ, yes, it’s amazing what a ferocious sweet tooth we get when quitting alcohol! I’m glad you took one day of your weekend to just rest and be. That’s really too bad that the faulty door to the building causes your apartment to be so cold, and especially if you have to pay for heat separately.
The trees are all laced in white again today. I will have to sleep over at D2’s house tonight for babysitting Huxley tomorrow, because a snowstorm is coming through overnight, and it might be too hard to get there in the morning.
You asked what I like to read, Mick. I used to love fiction, but got away from it over the last ten years or so…lost interest. I’m trying to get back to it, so have recently listened to “The Tattoist of Auschwitz”, “A Man Called Ove”, and now “The Dutch House”. Yes, I’m back a few years. Those all came out a few years back. Otherwise I read way too much self-help type literature.
Actually I think Cooper is in “ Newborn”-sized diapers. He had already reached 6 1/2 lbs. when I was there. But they don’t stay in that little size for long!
I’m having brunch with young daughter this morning! My twin sister isn’t coming though. Sadly, I think that means she’s drinking again. It’s hard to come out of this addiction if you’re too far in, because you feel so much like crap physically, mentally, and emotionally when you try to. I’m glad I escaped it when I did. And I can’t get sucked back in! It’s too dangerous.

Re: 12 March
MAE ALL...
Slo...thanks for kicking us off today. I woke up early/usual time too but the clock said 6. LOL Glad you're feeling refreshed today. The weather people got it wrong and we actually had a heatwave today. Wow, did it ever feel great to get outside. So I'm actually in a condo and when you walk in the door you go up two sets of stairs to get to the main living area. I think the condo company is responsible for outside reno's/door which means my landlord's condo fees might go up and hence my rent. I'm just not going to rock the boat right now. I hope your brunch was great and sadly it's probably just as well that your twin didn't come. I was way too far in with my drinking and decided I couldn't go on like this, I was killing myself. That's when I found MWO the Mick and Lav and that was over 10 years ago.
Mick...wow, that penny is in excellent condition. Although our temps shot up we have so much snow it's going to take awhile to get melting. We're supposed to be almost 20 degrees warmer tomorrow (8C/46F) than we have been all week. There will be a lot of people walking around in shorts. Not me.
Lav/TG...will check back to see how your days were. Have a good night all...

Re: 12 March
Greetings friends,
Waiting for the rain to start again but no snow so I guess that’s good. God forbid the mud dries up around here, haha!!
PQ, I hate cold drafts. Is there anyway you can just apply some weather stripping around your door to keep the cold air out? Easy enough to grab some at a hardware store.
We certainly have been hanging around this joint for a long time, 14 years for me now. I don’t know what would have happened to me if I hadn’t stopped when I did so I remain grateful
Mick, that’s such a cool penny your friend found. Wonder how much that would get in an auction, hmm.
Your snow never seems to last long & that’s a nice break. Say HI to the bunnies for me.
Slo, thanks for the start up.
I hope you get to your destination before the snow arrives tonight, take care. Glad you woke up feeling better.
Cyn, I was thinking that your elder’s granddaughter should look into getting her a Medi Planner with an alarm. If you miss a dose it buzzes you & reminds you to take your meds. Amazon.com
I hope yo had a good day & the weather is decent enough.
Take care all, I need to get the chickens tucked in safely before the rain gets here.
Have a nice night all.

Re: 12 March
Mae all,
Did I miss a day? I'm totally confused about what day it is... I mean, I figured out it was Sunday, and I set my clocks ahead before going to bed last night, but I swear the cold, damp, dark weather just sucks the brightness right out of my brain!
SLO, thx for starting the thread. I hope you had a wonderful time with your lunch date. My goodness, I guess babies really do grow fast - already over six pounds? Excellent. I hope your travel today was good, and it was a nice meeting with your daughter.
PPQ - here's hoping you had an excellent weekend - glad to hear you had some sun! And enjoy tomorrow's weather, hopefully it will be sunny for you.
Lav, that's exactly what I think about all this bullsh*t surrounding the bone issues. I remembered the site "Save our Bones" and had a good refresher there - thought about joining whatever program she has, but didn't "bite" so far. Then I found a couple of good info-sites about greens and how they bump up the calcium in the body. So, that's where I'm headed for helping myself... also I'll start at a gym soon -- just waiting for a little better weather so that motivation will stay high!
Mick, that's a nice penny that your friend found. But I'm kind of glad you weren't out in bad weather or muckluck boots and cold. There will be brighter days ahead (at least I keep telling myself that...) The thought of 10 horses in a field kicking up their heels on getting outside in spring is pretty wonderful - I'm holding onto that image!
Don't worry about me and my elder friend, folks. The family pays me to spend time, cook, and get the groceries. I am into nutrition, so I like to see that she's eating well - I can certainly see a difference in her sleep and her energy and her mental capacity. That alone is great "payment." I just wish the granddaughter would be a little more stable, but whatever. The daughter (that I know best) is coming next week, so we'll get things figured out. At some point I will be out of town - this spring or definitely in the summer - so they'll have to have some backup plans. This woman was a close friend of my mother's, so I feel like in some way I'm helping my mom... which helps me, as i wasn't able to do as much for my mom as I wished I could... so everything balances out...
Wishing all well,
TG

Re: 12 March
Hey kids, happy Monday
Cloudy, raining lightly for now & a Nor’easter blowing in tomorrow. Just another day in Lav-land I guess.
Cyn, yep Vivian found the real cause of osteoporosis - the typical acidic American diet & lack of weight bearing exercise. If we strive for a more balanced diet (fewer acidic foods & a lot more alkaline foods) & get up on our feet more we can fix this problem ourselves without the nasty drugs. I am happier doing something to help myself despite how much it pisses off the pharmaceutical industry.
That’s great that you can talk to your elder friend’s daughter soon & get a good plan together. Take care of you too
Mick, I remember all the old posters on this thread, they helped me so much too.
You have more than returned the favor to so many here, thanks for your help.
I still have a cat living on my deck (the one who likes to climb my flower tower). I hate when we have these windy storms, she refuses to come inside. I guess she feels safe in the little green house I purchased for her.
PQ, hope your day was easy
Slo, hope you had a good day too!
Have a nice night all!

Re: 12 March
MAE ALL...constant is the word to describe my day today. Had quite a few emails to sort through after the weekend, all wanting to book events. Did some catching up on the status of existing rentals and tomorrow I plan to work on setting up the virtual community garden AGM for Thursday. Everything else can just wait till I'm happy with that. LOL
Lav...we tried putting weather stripping on but whatever the door is made out of, concrete I think!, won't let it stick. One of the boys did make some adjustments to the frame and we have a blanket lying across the bottom. Just have to teach the other boy how to put the blanket back when he comes in. Just that little bit does make a big difference. It really all depends on which way the wind is blowing. At least that Nor'easter is coming from Montana this time and not Canada. We're going to get a bit of it in the morning with a bit of snow.
TG...it was sunny today and although the temps were better, they didn't get as high as forecast, the wind was still brutally cold. Good to hear that you're covered off with the cooking and groceries. Glad to hear the daughter will be coming and you can get things figured out. This must be the longest that you've stayed put since I've known you. LOL
Mick...that's a spiffy looking pair of shoes. With your background I'm not surprised you find it relaxing compared to everything else you would have had to do. Sorry for the theft but I really did need a break is this frozen tundra. LOL Is your friend coming to see you specifically or does he have family over there. He'll be able to tell you how crazy this weather has been.
Slo...hope babysitting didn't wear you out too much today.
Have a restful evening all...

Re: 12 March
That is a great-looking coin, Mick. No wonder you like reading Roman Army fiction; it dovetails nicely with your archaeological digs. Spiffy shoes too! They will look nice for the funeral.
I ended up driving to daughter’s at 0-dark-thirty this morning, since the snow had come earlier yesterday. Then took a long nap with Huxley this afternoon.
I was actually on this site as a lurker since the very end of August 2012, when I started my very first quit. And I made it two months too, before it got scuttled! I did not feel like I should post though, since it was really my sister’s site. And also because I went into years then of fits & starts and denial and moderating -and got really bad and in really deep after all that kindling, and all those Last Hurrahs. But, I mostly only struggled for about a decade with a broken off switch, and I never moved onto hard liquor as my primary fuel source, luckily. So, I have known you all for 10 years also!

Re: 12 March
Mae all,
Quick hello tonight... just got home from my elder's - we have fun and a lot of laughs... I can actually be funny in the right situation, and I love to make her laugh. Then I laugh too, and we are both better off for it.
Lav, yes, last night I gave myself a re-education on greens and acidic vs. alkaline foods, etc. In the past few years I have really fallen away from my former "clean and purposeful" eating. I guess it is time to get back into that now. Thx for always having the right info on hand!
SLO - wow, I don't remember seeing you in past years... I was just on one thread, and it melded with this one after there were some subscriber changes... so glad I am here now.
Mick - very beautiful buffing job there! I agree, if I can make anything in my life shiny, I am happier. Such a quick and cheap way to get a thrill!
PPQ - glad to hear that you had some sun today - I hope you got to soak up a bit of warmth.
Still feeling a little out-of-it from the Time Change and who knows what else. Going to try to get to bed shortly, hopefully that will help.
It's been 3 years now since the beginning of the beginning of the Pandemic, and this anniversary for some reason is really hard... but I'm just putting one foot in front of the other...
Cheers all and take care,
TG
