The great thing about thoughts, even the hard and heavy ones, is that they aren't real. They aren't commandments or even instructions. The ones that are bugging you are just a few of the 10s of thousands we have each day. And thank goodness we don't act on most of them!! Follow the ones that make you feel good and let the ones that hurt or make you feel uneasy pop right back out of your head. Our mental feelings are much like physical ones. If we touch a hot stove, that painful feeling causes us to draw our hand back and try not to do it again. Feelings of anxiety or guilt are similarly clues we're heading the wrong way. So, we can turn around (it helps in the early days to have a plan for what you turn to - a walk, a bath, anything that is pleasant for you).

You and Mr G are pretty cute twinks! Have a good weekend
lol. thanks SB. how are things? Hope you and fam are ok.

I love how you explain our thoughts/processes. I know there's been plenty of discussion here on this over the years (3 principles thread), but i can never get enough of a simple explanation and breaking it down in a way all can understand. This is an important subject we all need to know about.

    How are you going Frances?

All ok here. A quiet weekend of study around property investment, buying land, building, selling, costs for this, that, insurance, council contributions, GST, tax for this, stamp duty for that blah blah....sheesh. I don't want another job. A relaxing weekend crunching numbers. lol. Interesting stuff though.

    Have a great weekend.

    Re: What am I doing?

Thanks NS and G! I'm doing OK here - day 15 today

NS I appreciate your reminder to have something in mind to do when I start getting those thoughts. I've just been sort of plowing through them but to recognize it when it comes and have a 'go-to' activity is smart. I'll have to think about what that should be. I usually sub in some other drink like a seltzer or tea, and maybe that's good enough, but it would be nice to have a backup plan if that doesn't seem to be working.

G your studies sound interesting - is this for a change you're trying to make or is it something you do now for your job? Glad you're finding it interesting if not head-spinning too!

    Re: What am I doing?

    Congrat's on 15 days Frances!

Yes, i am studying something new. I have lived like a gypsy really for years, travelling with guitar and following that dream. Still living it. However, i want to lay down some roots now (Call me a late starter!). I'm going to generate some solid income for my twilight years, so am looking at property investing. It's a broad area with many different strategies with which to make a buck. I'll be sure to post with glee about my first successful deal when it happens. Covid has slowed the process down a little but people always need a house to live in.

    Take it easy.

It changed my life, Mr G, and I'll always be grateful to Kuya for introducing me to the ideas. "Three principles" sounds too woo-wooey to describe the simple (but not obvious!) fact that we live in the experience of our thinking. It explains why it sometimes seems like people live in an alternate reality: they actually DO!!

Good luck with your property investments! You can be like Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind and always have 'the land' .

Good to have 2 or 3 ideas to get through any cravings, Frances. Sometimes one works, other times another. Sometimes I used to just give it up and go to bed really early!!

It is very important to have an alternative goal in the fight against a bad habit. Only it is important that the achievement of this goal is not stressful, otherwise you can go back to your old days. Everything has to be balanced.

Everything is fine, probably like everyone else, at this time I try to keep a positive mood during the epidemic.

    Re: What am I doing?

Hi - I'm back - back for another day 1. Drank on September 20 and have pretty much had drinks daily since then except for maybe a day or two. It's been too much, so I'm going to try this again. I need more resolve than I had (and than I have now). I really don't know how to get to that point but I'll take it one day at a time for now.
