Halloween Recipe -- Fun for kids!

    1 # ground beef
Sloppy joe mix of your choice (1 can of Manwich, or
packet + tomato paste, or you could make homemade)
    2 pizza crusts/dough
    Shredded American or cheddar cheese
2-4 slices American or Cheddar cheese (for the top)

Cook sloppy joe. Flatten out pizza dough on baking sheets.
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on the pizza dough.
Carefully spread sloppy joe on top; spread to edges. Bake
for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.

Meanwhile, take the sliced American cheese and make a
jack-o-lantern face by cutting into triangles. When the
pizza comes out of the oven, place the ?eyes?, ?mouth? and
?nose? (or whatever else you dream up) onto the cooked
pizza - it will melt quickly.

    Makes 2 pizzas. Enjoy!

Halloween Recipe -- Fun for kids!

I grew up with this recipe -- my mom got it from some women's magazine in the 70s. Originally the crust was made with Pillsbury Hot Roll mix, which is still in stores but it's expensive, and why bother. I resurrected the recipe when I got involved with my now-husband and stepson, who was 3 when we started going out. (He's now 17, and we take a picture of the pizza every year.) Now my 2 year old can enjoy it too!

Just had to share the history and sentiment. I was also wondering if our UK friends would even know what "sloppy joe" or Manwich was!

            Sloppy Joe

Sloppy Joe is a combination of ground beef and a tomatoey sauce with spices. It is usually served on hamburger buns as a sandwich, and it tends to fall out of the bun -- hence the name "sloppy joe." (Who Joe is is anyone's guess.) I do have a recipe for a homemade version, with onions, greeen peppers, etc. but everyone I know has always used a can or a seasoning packet. This is anything but haute cuisine.

T, glad your boys aren't too old for this. We sure aren't.

Just got the Halloween decs taken down yesterday. Don't even talk to me about Christmas yet.
