Thanks for the bump up, Mario. Otherwise I might have missed this, and it is definitely something I wouldn't want to miss.

            Miss O.
Thank you for bumping this up - I didn't catch it previously.

This stopped me in my tracks:

I've been there for you always, when things were going right in your life, you invited me. You said you didn't deserve these good things, and i was the only one who would agree with you.

Together we were able to destroy all good things in your life.
Thanks as always for sharing Mario!

                  I AM YOUR DISEASE

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood...

Thanks Mario - puts AL exactly where it should be, as our enemy. Taking our lives, our time, our happy moments, our joy, our peace, our right to live a good life, we need to recognise it as it truly is. A trap just waiting patiently for our weakest moment to pounce - sneeking up on us quietly and silently...

Together we will overcome it but first we must see it as the enemy.

                        I AM YOUR DISEASE

                        Interesting thread,
I now consider myself a long term abstainer. I am at 9 months today.
I am your disease is an interesting way to phrase it.
I believe this is a disease of a normal brain!
Our brains have adapted for survival and to do so we have centers of delight and passion. For food, procreation, protection, etc.
Unfortunately there are now substances in our environment (addictive drugs and alcohol) which seem to be able to usurp these same pathways toward more and more use of that substance in spite of the harm it does to ourselves and others. It is not a "devil" out there it is the "devil" inside! Sort of like a virus that uses our own cells to make us sick and make more of itself to make us sicker!
The "cure" is abstinence which is hard at first but gets easier. It seems to be my true nature now and I feel so free of this disease. I know, however, that just one drink would diminish my judgment and risk all that I have accomplished. So I say: go for abstinence all the way and get (or stay) out of jail free!
                        Good luck to all

Is there another link that's more printer friendly?
