Gidday G - been meaning to post for the last 2 weeks saying congrats on your comeback!! I'm joining you ..... had a few too many lapses and excuses last year. Investing in my health so that I get to be 90 in a few decades time is my highest priority, and I'm cutting back to 4 days a week work which I'm really looking forward to!!

Enjoy your weekend, whatever it brings!!

          Hiya LB, SL and MB!

Thanks Missy. Reports of my demise really are greatly exaggerated. Life is short, and i believe we can add a decade or 2 by looking after our health, emotionally, mentally, physically. Glad to hear you're cutting back your work hours. I'll be working for myself by the end of this year. Very possible as long as i keep me head screwed on right. :afro:

I work for myself. Have done for almost 10 years. I say I have the most hardass boss there ever was.

Hard arse and kick ass Little B!

Saturday morning and off to pay the ferryperson. Good thing i like my job.

Great to wake up with a healthy (for me) degree of optimism. Sober living is the new orange.

              Take it easy, Yo!

Just read the "working for me" and "morning optimism" posts. Just gotta to say 'right on'--on both accounts. 28 years of self-employ has been great but on many occasions I wondered if it would have been better just to have worked for someone else. And the eventual answer was always a resounding no. Heavy-all day drinking eventually led me to stop being accountable, responsible, and functioning. At the end of my firewater debacle, I had lost any form of optimism and the mornings had become the most depressing part of my days. A few months post alcohol intake (and doing some other things), I found myself once again looking forward to waking up every morning and being able to be accountable to myself and others.

Thanks LB and G for the post and reminder.

That's great to hear Spirit. Long may it continue.

The working weekend over here. Yay! A cool monday morning, not summery at all. I have plenty to do this week that i'm feeling good about. Have a beaut week everyone.

21 days to break a habit? Yeaah!

The best of the best of good tuesday mornings to you reader.

Fairly cool here, but i'm sure there'll be hot weather again soon enough as we are mid summer.

I'm looking at increasing my work hours this year for a while to put some bucks away towards a few things. Am enrolling in a booze and drugs course which i know i'm gonna love, along with beginning a social work degree part time in March which relates to some community work i do. All will be part time, so i'm not going crazy just yet and removing beach run/chill time! I love not working full time and i see the consequent health benefits as i get more time to do what i like to do. But after a good year of chilling and recovering from a few years of intense work pace, i feel ready to take on a bit more and get some personal projects moving.

Man it's so good to be sober. Powerful stuff. Follow me on Twitter, tumblr, twatter, twirler, and curla for half hourly updates.

                    Take it easy out there.

Hi G-ster. I should have clarified my post sooner. G-as a result of of me and my then chain to alcohol, I lost the business that I had built during the prior 25 years. The destruction of my business and loss of almost all assets reminds me of just how powerful the devsating effect of alcohol can. And G, I just to say now, after looking back, this total loss turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me.

Being self-employed is truly awesome for some, but damn it requires self control and self accountability. Constant influx of alcohol totally screws this up.

Yep, i bet boozing when self employed screws it up. No-one to answer too either in some ways. I am flying high without booze. No chains, just freedom 24/7.

I'm looking to increase my work hours this year and a place i volunteer at asked if i'd consider working there. So the co-ordinator i work under took my details and will pass them on with a recommendation to her manager. Will see what happens. This wouldn't have happened if i had called in sick today and been boozing, which was highly on the cards yesterday! Onwards and upwards.

Take it easy out there and thanks for being here y'all. :heartbeat:

Well, i nearly had a start in the escort biz when i ran out of money travelling Europe as a younger fella lol. I took to busking with my guitar instead.

To work in addiction counselling or as a support worker here, you'd start with an entry level 12 month course called Certificate iv in alcohol and other drugs. From there you can continue to diploma, social work degree, or specialize doing a counselling course. You can study this stuff part time while you are working too. Uni's are pretty flexible around working students returning to study. I'm doing 1 day per week booze and drugs and 1 day per week social work degree. 2 different courses part time so i can also work on other stuff and make music. Go for it Byrdy! You would be excellent, and empathy is key to build relationships. That and some solid evidence based strategies and plan for a person that that person helps create and 'own', as social workers like to say.

Tis a beaut morning here, aside from the meditative tones of some clown next door with a leaf blower. I suppose he/she has to earn a crust! 'Surely you've finished by now mate?' 'How long does it bloody take!?' Where's me sling shot?

A bit of gym work then a run. Love it. Heaps of fun things to do today after that.

                                Take it easy out there.
