I’m so scared

Hello I’m new to this. Friday night I drank the most I ever drank. I chugged about 500ml of Bacardi because I was having a panic attack. I went to bed and woke up in vomit. Don’t remember throwing up or anything. I then vomited again and again. I’m scared because it’s 3 days later and I’m still lightheaded. I also read you can stop breathing from alcohol poising. Is it possible I stopped breathing in my sleep and my brain was deprived of oxygens. I asked my doc he said he didn’t think so. But I’m still so scared I might have caused permanent brain damage. I was sober 60 days before this happened

Thank you for reading

Hi Anxiety and Welcome to MWO.. I'm wondering if your Doctor said anything else about the symptoms you're having? When did you last see him? Are you getting help or taking something for the panic attacks? It's great that you had 60 days of sobriety before Friday and this site is a really good place to come for support. I would say that if you still aren't feeling better and it's causing you anxiety, it might be good to see a doctor again.. The Newbies Nest is a thread where there is quite a bit of action from people in all different stages of quitting/staying quit.. and it's possible in a lot of the threads here to find connections and get support. I would suggest reading and posting where you feel comfortable. It's good to have you here.. here's a link to the Newbies Nest..

Hi, Anxiety:

I doubt you did permanent damage and woke up. Of course, you paint a dangerous scenario and many a rock star has died in that situation, but you seem to have come out unscathed. My last weekend of drinking took a long while to recover from. There is something called wicking where your body becomes physiologically dependent more quickly with each stop and start.

Reach out for help here, in person, anywhere you can.

Welcome!

Welcome Anxiety1001 and good on you for making a new start. Having made it to 60 days should definitely give you some confidence that you CAN do this. What exactly makes you wonder in re: to your breathing during sleep? Whereas it is true that alcohol can cause the body symptoms of sleep apnea (brief pauses in breathing during sleep) overall this is nothing that would cause any brain damage let alone anything permanent. As for the lightheartedness it is more likely that this is just your blood pressure being a little out of whack right now but nothing to be concerned with especially if your doctor isn't too concerned. Remember that the first 10-14 days are generally considered to be the most intense and there are resources online that will give you some idea of what to expect in terms of physical and neural recovery.

As lifechange asks above are you getting any help with the anxiety/panic attacks? Early withdrawals can definitely spike any pre-existing anxiety issues. (The Connection Between Alcohol and Anxiety) Is there someone that you can stay with for a week or two if you live alone? Might that make you less anxious? Dealing with Anxiety in Early Recovery

Congratulations on getting back on the horse and continuing in the direction of your alcohol free life, a better life.

Re: I’m so scared

Hello

Thanks for the replies
I drank because I had a sudden feeling of dizziness and got scared. Im a hypochondriac so any symptoms unusually freak out. So I had 2 shots then when to bed the. I woke up in a panic had a few more shots then went to bed than woke up with more panic and chugged the remaining 500 ml then went to bed I woke up in vomit don’t remember anything and I was alone. So I read online that alcohol poisoning can make you stop breathing so I’m scared during the night I stopped breathing and my brain had no oxygen. I woke up and didn’t drink anymore actually didn’t even feel that sick maybe because I threw it up? Anyways that’s why my anxiety is through the roof I haven’t drank since that day

Since you are prone to hypochondria I would recommend refraining from doing online research in reference to your health. That will only make the hypochondria worse. I would tend towards leaning on people knowledgeable in re: to health to filter out the anxiousness. Cyberchondria - Wikipedia Just my two cents.

Re: I’m so scared

Hi Anxiety1001, and welcome. Congrats on your 60 days, and glad to see you jumping back on the wagon. I'm sorry to hear you're having these concerns though - it sounds scary. Ingesting that much alcohol and then withdrawing from it can definitely ramp up anxiety in almost anyone, and if you're prone to anxiety anyway, I imagine it's more intense. I am not a person who experiences anxiety regularly at all, but the few isolated times I've had episodes, it was after heavy drinking of hard alcohol (similar to what you drank, more or less) and then going through the first few days of not drinking.

One thing that comes to mind is dehydration. I am NOT a Dr and cannot advise you, but I do know that alcohol dehydrates people (as does vomiting). Light-headedness is also a symptom of dehydration. Maybe look into a sports drink or similar that enables you to re-hydrate and regain/maintain electrolyte balance.

Please come back and let us know how you're doing, and again, talk with your Dr again if your concerns continue. He or she is the best source of advice for situations like yours.

How comfortable are you with your doctor? Do you have faith in their knowledge and experience, trust their professional opinion? If so please lean on their advice in regards to your health. When these thoughts occur please try to remind yourself why you chose this doctor to reinforce why you should trust in what they have said.

I can easily down a 500 ml bottle of Vodka sadly but then I pass out and wake up in the morning with vomiting and feeling like crap. I have done this several times in one week and it scares me too. I am 115 lbs and 5'4 so it definitely really hits me hard.

That is a lot of alcohol, especially for your size. It is good that you want to quit. I wrote to you here: https://www.mywayout.org/community/j...ml#post1761112

I hope you've already stopped doing this, Mighty. That's so dangerous. I've done it a couple of times too, but I'm pretty much double your weight and the day after scared me as well.
