Newbies in need - Day 24

    Dear Friends:

Since I haven't had a drink since July 9th (I can't believe I'm starting day 15), I'm really starting to see the benefits of sobriety. For me, the short list:
-waking up clear & guilt/shame free.
-sleeping more deeply (not shallowly & erratically).
-remembering what I do & say.
    -getting more physical exercise.
    -lowering my blood pressure.
-using my money for positive things.
Can anyone add to the list? It doesn't matter how much AF or Mod days you have.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
    Love, Mary

Newbies in need - Day 24

Mary good job on the 15 days.

    Add:
    -lower my cholesterol
    -lower my weight
-a reason to not plan everyone else's activities around my drinking time

    You are doing great Mary.

I have a lot of work to do today, and I have inlaws here. I'll check in later.
    Have a great day eveyone.

Newbies in need - Day 24

This is another awesome thread Mary. And congratulations on Day 15!!

I love all the listed benefits so far!!

        Some more...

        1. The more I discover, the more I realize just how much my drinking was robbing me of my health. I'm enjoying the process of figuring out how to get my overall health going in a better direction, and look forward to the future in that regard.

        2. I love not having to worry about whether I forgot something because I was drinking. Now if I forget something, it's just because I forgot LOL!

        3. As much as I think I want a drink several many times a day to "relieve stress" or whatever, I'm actually happier and calmer in the way I handle unexpected situations than I was before. Mr. Doggy was the one that pointed THAT out first. I guess I thought I handled myself better on the booze train than I really did to a sober observer.

Just a few more....I can't wait to see all the post by this evening, and consolidate a BIG ol' list!

Hugs to those who need them. Have the best day you can everyone!

        DG

Dear DG: I really like your second one. When I forget something sober or make a mistake sober, I can take responsibility for it. It's just a simple mistake...not a drunken blunder. Thank you so much, Mary

Newbies in need - Day 24

            hi all,
A couple things I've noticed when I have a few days in..
My dreams are more vivid and I remember them.
I eat alot less junk food, I don't crave it as much.
I like people, I'm not so negative.
My blood pressure goes down to normal.
            I don't get PMS.
            I don't get bloated.
And so much more. I am feeling good today. Nothing much going on. A nice relaxing rainy evening. Bird

Newbies in need - Day 24

Excellent thread. I think it is extremely important that we continually remind ourselves of all the positives of being AF and/or moderating successfully.

I am 12 days AF, 2 days Mod. My plan is 6 AF days and 1 Mod per week. So far it has been working for me.

              The positives are numerous:
In the evenings - I don't have to hide the wine glass from my kids & their friends, I no longer dread answering the phone or doorbell, I remember what I said or promised to the kids, I remember what I read and don't have to reread it the next AM, I take walks and bikerides with my kids, I work on my quilting projects, I clean up the kitchen and I fall asleep because I am tired, not passed out.

              In the morning
              - I wake up with a positive attititude and a sence of accomplishment! No guilt, no remorse, no hangover. My self-esteem grows with each day AF. I plan out my day and can focus on my tasks. I set goals and accomplish them.

I no longer have to plan out where I'll buy the wine. I had to rotate between 4 - 5 stores and this was a chore! I've lost 2 pounds in the last two weeks and my complexion is looking better.

Falling asleep tired - not passed out (Taking Control)

                  Let's Add:

                  - Not having to worry as you head out on the highway in the morning whether if you got pulled over you would still be legally drunk.

                  - And ditto on not having to "rotate" liquor stores.

                  - Not spending so much $ on something so distructive.

                  - Being able to sit out on the deck (visiible to my neighbours) and not worry that one of them may walk up to talk and realize I've been drinking.

                  - Being able to handle situations without making a fool of myself (go to the "Laughing out Loud forum and read "Don't Laugh, this really happened")

                  And many, many more!:welcome:
The furture lies before you like newly fallen snow - be careful how you tread it, for every step will show.
