    Underground movement !

Hi all been on and off this site for a few years just recently come back on determined to find a cure for my disease. And delighted to say started to read about baclofen ( have research it indipendantly away from this site as well and been in contact with Dr Olivier) and have taken the decision to order it on line and give it a try. Having read many peoples posts and the research I turely belive that this will help me especially as I dont drink everyday and therfore fortunately will not have to go through any detox like dts ( I say fortunatley cause I realise I am very luck that my drinking has never got to that level, but is still at a level where it has destroyed much in my life over many years) . I have read with interest that baclofens effectivness can be linked to your alcohol intact prior to taking it , is this so or have I read it wrong .

Any way my main point is that I am eagerly awaiting my meds and ordered the good Doctors book, I applaud his work, why is trying to find a sloution to an alchol problem like being a memeber of some under ground movement ??? oh ya !!!! I remember !!!! we are just a bunch oh weak willed fools who have made this a life choice !!!!! so why help us ???? god that attitude makes me mad, who would choose our varying forms of hell that we go through ???, shame some of the researcheres cant come on here and read what we really go through might change a few attitudes. But I digress , waiting for my meds with a hopefull heart and a smile on my face, as i have done for some time truely believed that there must be a chemical solution to our disease. Good luck to all you good people as that is the only positive I can find in having an alcohol problem, over the years I have been privilaged to share great support, empathy and much laughter and tears with the wonderful people in this amazing community .

Yes, it's a shame that it is like an "underground movement", when it should be a mainstream, well-known, much-prescribed treatment (hopefully cure).

As for Bac's effectiveness being linked to alcohol intake prior to taking it, I have not heard one way or the other. Maybe someone else here knows. However, of course if your intake is higher prior to starting Bac, the effect will be more noticeable.

I am also extremely thankful for this community-- for the invaluable information and support. And for making me feel not so alone in this struggle.

Exactly... talk about adding insult to injury!

Already there is a lot of proof to show how the brain works in an addicted person... it makes clear the physiological aspect of addiction. However, this kind of information is not only unknown to the general public, but apparently to most doctors, including the so-called specialists in addiction treatment. Whether it's unknown or consciously ignored by these specialists, it is a scandal with dire consequences for millions and millions of people who are having the 12-step method shoved down their throats as the best and basically the only treatment available.

In "Seven Weeks to Sobriety", the author/doctor, who extensively researched alcohol addiction after her alcoholic son committed suicide, says at some point in the book how sorry she feels for people trying to get/stay sober with AA. (She proposes to cure alcoholism through nutrition and an extensive supplementation regime... Although I don't consider her prescription a solution, it certainly helps people in withdrawal and also makes it easier to stay sober.)

thanks guy you are all wonderful. Makes my blood boil that nobody seems to want to listen and one of the reasons we dont get heard is because most of us are trying to hide our illness and I know in truth I am ashamed of it and would find it hard to stand up and be counted in campaging for more research ! Very sad but true for me ! So applaud somebody like OA who is doing just that ! But on a good note off work today and feeling bored thats when I would have a drink but been on here instead beats a drink anytime ! And Beatle I am not decrying AA but like OA says what other illness is there where the person is lablelled by it ?? Ever heard a diabetic talk about their experience by opening on My name is Earl ( my kids love that show ) and I am a diabetic ????? I rest my case , although I applaud anybody who has gone down that road as I know it has helped many a person, its just each to their own and its not for me !!

Brave Hearted. I replied to your PM.
Dont get discouraged. This is a remarkably new to the states as Dr Ameisen's book I believed was released in I believe January of this year. I stumbled across it in February and when I came to MWO, no no was talking about dosing to effect and the threads I could find were asking for information and no one really replying.
So I added my success story. Then Billyb showed up with near identical results. Then some brave ladies here started the higher dosing as per Dr A's book and made threads with similar results to us Billys!
Their threads and commitment to helping others with answering questions and giving support made others try and THEY have posted their success.
All of this in less than 3 months. All of that since January when Dr A's book came out in the states. So in the whole grand schemes. This is the very very early stages of this new revolution.

NO ONE and I mean 99.5% of physicians will know about this new therapy at this early point.
It is indeed remarkable that it has taken off and I am shocked at it. But it continues to be one person helping the next person and then they have success and lately it seems more and more people are stopping by about baclofen and starting it. I do believe this represents the early stages of a snowball.

I also have a website that is near launching and a documentary of an alcoholic whose hopeless who decides to quit drinking and regain his life through baclofen that I have been wnorking on. Documenting him on high definition cinema style cameras as he goes through taking his first dose and as he titrates up. A few other things I have been toying around with in order to help spread the word.
So all I can say is be patient. As I told Dr A, sit back and watch where this is going to be in a year. This is only the beginning!

I detoxed using that program and it really does help. I didn't even have the shakes- and I always have the shakes by afternoon. The last time I detoxed without mass dosing vitamins I had the shakes and felt awful for weeks, so I reccomend that program if you can afford it. I am drinking again but I plan to stop with Baclofen and plenty of vitamins. It makes it less scary.

Bill P. You could very well end up fairly saying that you saved lives with that website one day.

whow what great replies. Thank you so much Bil for your detailed reply really inspiring the work that you are doing and I truley belive this could be a break through treatment lets all keep our finger crossed and know that we are getting in at the ground level. I plan to keep a detailed diary once I get the meds might be of use to some researcher in the future who knows but think it will be theraputic for me anyway. I so agree its an illness but social stigma makes it difficult to accept that and not birrat yourself for being weak especially when others are quick to jump to that conclusion . Anyway think I have made my point and had my rant on that subject , now to the future !!! watch this space !

Hi Pete thank you for your replies I thank the lord that I am not at the stage of having the dts when I dont drink as I do not drink daily but still in a extremely distructctive way that has hugely inpacted on my life. And who know maybe one day Pete we will be saying we knew the man Bill P in the early days before he saved all those lives an we in some small way contributed to that. But in the mean time lets save our own lives and stick with this, good luck giving up again

Thanks Brave. I hope we are right about this. I upped my dosage today and I think cravings are down, but it's almost 5:00 and the withdrawal symtoms are here. I am not looking forward to detoxing. I just wish I could moderate my way down. Of course I've wished that for years.

Pete, I am moderating my way down, as are many other people here (I think) and indeed, as Dr. A himself did.

As I titrate up, my cravings have slowly but surely decreased, along with my consumption. I am not struggling to do this, but I am exercising a little will power, which seems so much easier now. What I mean is that sometimes even though I can have a drink and want one (or think I want one by habilt), I am able to talk myself out of it, or at least put it off.

I am only on 30mg per day (but I am very small) and feeling a definite positive effect with some side effects, but very minor. I figure if I continue like this (modding down while titrating up) I will eventually hit that magic point of indifference. Meanwhile, I am happy with the progress so far, and I am less desperate to be AF immediately than I was before beginning the Bac. I can feel it happening, and I believe it will happen.

                            Beatle,

Thank you for posting that and letting us know. I have been waiting and waiting to hear how you are doing.

Titrating up on Bac and down on AL is a great way to get there. You should circumvent all withdrawal symptoms that way, as well as keep from having to white knuckle your way through titrating up.

Pushing away the thoughts is so much easier on the Bac. It still amazes me.

Not good. I shouldn't have titrated up the day before an important meeting at work. I got stinking drunk, didn't hear the alarm, slept till noon and co workers had to cover for me- again. I am going to loose my job of 19 years- the only thing I have ever done if I keep this up. I'm only not fired now because of my history with the company and the owner kind of likes me, but he's not the CEO anymore and the guy who is can't justify keeping a guy who can't make it to work until after lunch. I feel awful. I am going to titrate a little faster. This HAS to work and soon.
